That's what F1 is supposed to sound like! It was even loud on the telly!
Not half! It was visceral, guttural, olfactory and profoundly deafening..

Indeed, and with modern cars being considerably larger these days there’s little room for overtaking. It’s almost as if the FIA wants the drama of cars ploughing into walls, spinning each other around, etc. 😒.

The replacement of classic race tracks in countries with decades of motor racing pedigree with bland new tracks (that still make overtaking difficult) built by wealthy countries is the most depressing aspect, but it’s all about the money I guess.

Bring back Brands Hatch!
I've never really liked Monte Carlo, very rarely do you get a good race (you really have to go back to the 60s for consistent great racing there), and most of the results are already decided in qualifying, it's controversial I know but I think they should scrap the Monaco Grand Prix as its mostly processional that is unless there's a very rare spanner thrown into the works so to speak.

I think they should keep it as qualifying only and scrap the race. I get the challenge as a driver but the race is a procession with the only hope a bungled pit stop.

I don’t think they would ever scrap it (unless there was a major safety aspect that arose or some governance/political issue). It’s a sporting spectacle even if it’s not a racing spectacle.

Or the untimely crash.

I always end up falling asleep watching it on TV. I'm sure it's great to see live in person since you can get really close to the track.but it really sucks on TV.

I agree, I don't think they would ever scrap it predominantly because of the history, but that's a really bad argument; and as you say, the spectacle is certainly alluring to some, but as DrmexicoII correctly says, it's little more than a procession, a fashion parade, a celebrity hang out on the back of the Cannes Film Festival.. and all we can hope for is a cock up in the pits, rain that may or may not mix things up a bit, penalties etc. but then that's not about racing, it's just hoping for external events to intervene somehow; and to add to this, I find
the principality of Monaco rather grotesque, although it's been some years since I've been I can only imagine it's got a lot worse.

That could explain Alonso's "resurgence" 😀
This hilarious joke is becoming epic. It all started in a random Buzzfeed with someone writing a hilarious "ship" of them lol.

I’ll agree that most Monaco GPs are processional and boring (for this, also see Baku 2023 🙁) but it is a race that most drivers want to win, and forms one third of the ‘Triple Crown’ of motor racing (along with Le Mans 24hr and Indy 500, this being something Alonso really wanted to achieve).

I’m sure I read recently that the FIA or whatever wanted to ditch the Monaco GP as they had never paid to host the race, whereas the new, wealthy host countries paid heaps. I believe that a satisfactory monetary outcome was achieved to enable it to continue but it would be sad if we lost some of the classic circuits like Spa, etc. Maybe they could have a sprint race at Monaco and then move over to the French circuit at Paul Richard for the main race, as it’s not that far away (though the Monégasgue wouldn’t go for this).

It’s great to see Zandvoort back but I do wonder if that would have happened if a certain Mr Max hadn’t come along…

Without Max I don’t think a lot of people will pay EUR 500 for a ticket. Insane amount anyway

Monaco - race always a letdown - sadly becoming that way with all of the races……

Formula e now running 29 laps round the full Monaco circuit and that’s still a bit of a procession, so it’s not the argument of disproportionately over-powered F1 cars round a tight circuit. Perhaps we just need to accept it for what it is.

Checo grabbing pole with the least enthusiastic congrats from Horner.

Whenever Max gets pole, Horner is all like "GREAT DRIVING!!! THAT WAS A MEGA LAP!!!! NO ONE COULD'VE DRIVEN BETTER THAN YOU!!!!"

When Checo gets pole, Horner was "Congrats. Great job."

Perhaps Max suffers from lack of confidence and needs the boost to his self-esteem. D'ya think?

Betting shops now closed and non within walking or cycling distance (at my age) tomorrow otherwise I'd have a ten-spot on Fernando.

Will be an interesting race, for sure. We'll see how far Max can advance through the field, he should be able to get on the podium. DRS button will be well used tomorrow. Congrats to Perez but his pole is an accident of the circumstances, it isn't like he was blowing Verstappen out of water so far this weekend. Commentators are trying to juice the Max/Checo rivalry but Max is clearly the better performer of the two drivers if you take the influence of safety cars and crashes out of the picture.

Or it's more likely that Horner favors Max and doesn't really want Checo winning a WDC over Max.
