The new Sprint format does look more interesting, a completely separate ‘race day’ with qualifying and short race. Though any crash in the Sprint will really screw your main race 🤔

Well this is pretty dramatic so far for a practice

I thought I’d seen enough fire for the whole season at Melbourne 😲

Yea... not really feeling the sprint for Baku. Were the sprint positions determined by the 3rd practice session? I missed that one but watched the regular qualifier and noticed the sprint positions were different. So assuming the regular qually is for the main race and the 3rd session determined the sprint positions?

There was only one free practice session and that was on Friday morning. The "sprint" start positions were decided by the Saturday morning "sprint shootout", aka qualifying just for the sprint.

This sprint format is a fail in my view. Well the whole sprint thing is.

Got it thanks! Think my provider labeled them wrong so didn't watch proper recordings. I agree 100% on Sprint being a Fail. Just unnecessary and costs teams a lot of money

Maxipad whining about George is really rich now that the shoe is on the other foot. Does Max just think everyone should bow down and yield to him?

He's channeling Ayrton Senna.

Verstappen can't take it but has always been an expert at dishing it out.. Fast and talented but one of the few F1 drivers I have ever disliked.
Senna shouldn't be judged on his battles with Prost alone, Senna was always a hard racer but fair, that is until he was significantly wronged, look at the great battles between him and Mansell they were always on the edge but nearly always fair.

On the whole, The Sprint race is a good idea for some circuits, but the results from the Sprint race should impact the Grand Prix itself, a bit like a qualifying session as it was previously, the notion of it not having a knock-on effect seems incongruous.

Russell's driving was absolutely fair racing, there was nothing for Verstappen to complain about, yes Russell understeered into the Red Bull but Verstappen could have given him a bit more room, or simply backed off a little, it was a fair racing incident.

Great to see James Allison back again.. Second only to Adrian Newey and right up there with the likes of Ross Braun, John Barnard, Steve Nicholls, Gordon Murray, Patrick Head, Colin Chapman et al

Here are some pictures from yesterday taken from my balcony. The F2 qualifying is going on right now. Those cars are loud.

It looks like Formula 1 has again proven that removing classic race tracks and using street courses with procession racing and sprint qualifying has indeed improved the sport.
