Just about every former England great said Bairstow should know better. I just don’t understand why it’s so difficult to understand he got out fairly. Carey is a great reader off the game and saw that Bairstow steps out of the crease immediately after the ball goes through. Carey had the ball traveling back to the stumps in one quick action. No different than if he was standing over them for a spinner. Sloppy of Bairstow and cost them the match I reckon.
Personally I love it when there is no love lost between the teams. They’ve been pretty chummy and relaxed of late. That is definitely over!

Moving up the wicket to play a shot to a spinner, missing and getting stumped as a consequence is nowhere near the same thing as strolling out believing the ball was dead.
I accept that it is out within the laws but let's not try to dress it up to anything more respectable than it is. The only thing similar is Mankading and I find that pretty distasteful unless a player has been warned previously.
Will spice up the series anyway

Your opinion of course. I guess England will have to look to have some rules changed that they don't like. If its within the rules its fair game. England have done it themselves, just don't like it when its done against them.

If England had been successful in Bairstows attempt and if there had been an appeal and finally if Stokes had not withdrawn the appeal (which he states he would have) them my opinion would be the same. In reality of course we may never know.

By the way I already accepted it was within the Laws. And yes I don't like it. *no rules in cricket.

You “not in the spirit of the game” guys do realise that Bairstows tried the same thing on Manus 2 days earlier 🙄

What you got to say about that…..

3 members from Lords suspended 🤦🤦 🤦 Now that’s not in the spirit of the game behaviour.

It should be noted as well that the MCC has apologised to the Australian cricket team, saying "emotions were running high and words were exchanged with some of the Australian team, by a small number of members," as written in a statement.

"[The MCC] will deal with any Member who has not maintained the standard we expect through our disciplinary process".

Carry on like that at a pub you’re getting a punch in the head. Or by a drunk Stokes at 3am

2-0 down ::psy::

I like! Now we have a full gamut of perspectives, some key facts bringing balance and some humour
I also like the scoreline!!!

The 2 banned members from Sandpapergate were on the pitch today as you may or may not know. Apropos of nothing, does the word decade mean something else in Aus? is it like the US gallon, smaller than that accepted in the old country? Just checking! 😉

ha, I think I might have reversed the intent from that most sagacious and gravitas laden songsmiths finest offering ‘objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are’

Sandpaper was miles back wasn’t it- or is it kilometres?

Either way I’m pretty sure neither Warner or Smith had anything to do with Carey successfully executing the very same move Bairstow attempted just a few days ago nor Erasmus correctly adjudging it out.

Already addressed this above. England would have been just as wrong in my opinion. And if Eng were to do it in the next test I would be critical of them too.
Just because it is technically in the laws doesn't make it right....in my opinion
I remember back to Greg Chappels aus team and the under arm delivery in an ODI to avoid a loss (1980s?). That was within the Laws at the time too. Think almost everyone agreed that was pretty poor form.
The Lords members behaviour was disgraceful and deserves a ban.
Have I missed anything?

Oh yes congrats on your 2-0

That Rascal aka your great, great Grandfather must have stolen a Loaf of Bread from the Lords to secure his free Passage to the Last Frontier. Great Guy !! I would not want to be anywhere else on our Planet in the moment .

Such a shame that all that’s being talked about is the Bairstow dismissal.I am not really a big cricket fan but I have totally enjoyed these two test matches.
Both going five days, incredible individual performances from players on both sides.close finishes and I still think this series will be a classic.

Both Duckett and Bairstow were out, nothing more needed to be said really, storm in a tea cup. The best team won both tests. I don't think the series is quite decided yet though....hopefully. It's quality entertainment. The ICC and other governing bodies should hang their heads in shame though, that there are 2 calculating, premeditating cheats still involved in the game, at any level, IMO.

I haven’t really seen the Bairstow dismissal apart from a quick replay it how anyone can say Duckett was out is beyond me.
The catcher must be in control of both the ball and their body. Starc had control of the ball but not his body as he was sliding across the grass towards the boundary. To regain that control he put the ball on the ground. Cannot be out.

So watch the left handed Root catch of Travis Head 😗 which by your above mention should not be out…as the ball touched the ground as he landed 👍

Unless I’m thinking of a different catch, I don’t get the comparison. Roots diving catch didn’t ground the ball at any point.

There was an angle shown last night that didn’t have the batsman’s legs in the way and you clearly see him turn his hand as he hit the ground with the ball hitting also. Yes he had it wrapped up a bit more and not as severe as Starc. I do think it is a natural defence to not break your wrist… or in starcs case face plant. Obviously not as much coverage of it in England as was here in Australia.

If that’s the case I agree, should’ve been not out then.

It’s going to make for a cracking atmosphere at Headingley this weekend. I’ll be there nice and early on Thursday!

True story: I was at Headingley around 8-10 years ago for an Ashes test, stood under the stand wigg the my brother while he had a cig. Out of nowhere this young, thin lad; 10 stone piss wet through, ran between the two of us, waving something in the air. A second later this huge, hulk of a man thundered between us, tash and all. Just after the big fella caught up with the first lad, pinned him over a large bin by the throat and ripped the cap out of his hand before walking back right next to us.
It was Merv Hughes. Some lad thought it would be funny to pinch his cap and run off with it. Seems Merv didn’t see the funny side. I’m not sure the kid did after he picked his arse up out of the bin.

Many years ago was dating a girl that had two young boys. Glen McGrath was filming an add for airport duty free across from our office. Asked if he could sign his autograph twice on my note book. He had to do something and said he would be a second. I said I would be back in five minutes and to leave it.
Came back and everyone was gone but him, said he wanted to see I got it. Had a chat for about 5 minutes. Nice bloke.
Gave the autograph to the boys who were about 8 and 14 and they had never heard of him. This was early 2000s 🤦 (both were great rugby league players but obviously not into cricket)

When I was working at Sydney airport saw many players from all over the world over the years. Was always surprised how tall the bowlers were and how short some of the best batters in the world are.
