I went into Hamburg this morning with a view to either buying a MoonSwatch or, if not available, taking a look at the full set in the Omega Boutique. Unsurprisingly there were no MoonSwatches in the Swatch store, so off to Omega.

The OB outcome was a bit different than expected. Firstly the staff explained that they were not permitted to remove the MoonSwatch display box from the window, not even for their own interest after office hours; it had to stay in the prescribed position mandated by Omega. So no luck getting even a close up photo, let alone an actual hands-on experience.

A bit deflated I asked about the 2022 releases from Omega itself to which I was asked if I had seen the new Speedmaster “siebenundfünfzig“. Somehow my brain was still in English mode and thought “what the hell is a Speedy 75?” So of course said yes. This was a fortunate mistake because if I had immediately understood Speedy 57 I would probably have thought “uh, just some new coloured dials on an auto-winding, overly thick watch that has little to do with the classic Speedy Pro” and answered “no thanks”.

What they brought out was mighty impressive: smaller, thinner case, fine tapering bracelet also with smaller, thinner links plus the micro-adjust clasp from the Chronoscope model (more on this later) and of course three fascinatingly subtle and attractive dials.

So here is a quick upload of the photos I took. The videos were even more impressive/convincing.

It seems that quite a few Speedy 3861 owners, myself included, have already done or asked for the bracelet clasp upgrade from stock to Chronoscope to be done. I was informed by the OB that Omega either has or soon will stop this practice, so if you have this upgrade on your to-do list better do it sooner than later.

For Omega fans in northern Germany I can tell you that all of the new models will be in the Omega Boutique, Hamburg between 4th and 9th April.

I'm surprised these have the male end links, I assumed Omega was going to move all their models to the more form fitting female links.

    Cool! Thank you for sharing.
The metal tachymeter bezel is a deal killer for me — too bling. Also don’t like those pointy hands…

I don’t think they do. The white watch is an old one. The rest have pivoting links I think

although im not a massive fan of fauxtina.. the texture on the dial really works well with it. I'd have to see them in person I have a feeling the vintage inspired model will be a hit

That green one is fire. I’m a bit of a Speedmaster purist but I plan on picking it up this year.

It’s the previous generation Titanium, automatic model with the 9300 movement, Ref: 331.90.42.51.04.001

I included it to show how the cases differ between the old and new generations.

Does anyone know if this is the exact same tachymeter as the Speedmaster Trilogy edition? I'm having my eye on one of those and wasn't expecting it to be so 'shiny'.

My local OB had a new '57 in today so I tried it on. I've been interested in this model since it was released, mostly because it's thinner and hand wound and has the very nice feeling and good looking column wheel movement similar to the Chronoscope models.

Positives: the movement, plus in my opinion this is the best bracelet I've seen on an Omega. It felt very high quality, smooth, and the clasp is great.

Negatives: unfortunately I feel the case finishing is a step backwards. It looked over-buffed to me and the brushed sections were clearly distorting and not crisp. You can see it in the second photo Longbow posted in their first post - the brushing on the older '57 model reflects the light in consistent vertical lines while the thinner new '57 distorts the same light source. It's nowhere near as nice as my FOIS.

Another negative for me is that the chrono seconds hand and the date were both misaligned. I assume this is early teething problems but QC should not have let the watch that I saw make it to the boutique, IMHO.

Lastly I thought the laser engraving on the bezel was too thin / light - it's just about readable but disappears easily and doesn't really look right.

Nice watch, on a fantastic bracelet, let down by some finishing and QC issues that are disappointing at this price.

Do you think these QC issues are widespread or did you just look at a dud? Were there other ones you handled?

I’ve no idea if they’re widespread. The OB only had the one watch on display. I should say that there wasn’t anything faulty or not working, it was minor alignment issues (as you can see in my picture, the chrono seconds hand is off to the right and the date is off to the left). It might be that they are early production wrinkles that will be ironed out. But I was still surprised to see them on a watch at this price.

In terms of the case finishing though, it looked exactly as the watch in the OP’s post so I guess that’s how they’ve chosen to finish the cases.

I'm going to win the lottery next week and I'll be buying one of those 57's immediately thereafter. Where can I buy tickets?

Having checked out a blue dial example today I have to row back on these comments - I still think the case isn’t quite as sharp as I’d like, but I now realise that the reason for the distortion is that the case flank is a curved surface, not flat like the previous ‘57 or the FOIS.

I really like the watch in blue. Keen to check out the red dial when that makes its way into the boutiques.
