Considering the date will help the watch sell to non-hardcore watch nerds, I think it's OK.... but the thickness is distressing.
Actually understand the date inclusion from a purely demographic standpoint

Actually a lot watches and even re-editions are doing pretty well without a date complication.
Tudor is selling black bays like hot cakes, to both hardcore watch nerds and the average customer.
I think the demographic for these Heuer reissues are the watch nerds and people that love the classic/vintage design.

I love Longines but they have majorly Fkd up some potentially great watches with superfluous date additions....

You can just imagine the WWII Czech RAF ace, "
Tally Ho, I say Biggles what's today's date ? Ah lorks a Lordy don't worry, I can see it with this tiny little window intruding on the subdial on my otherwise perfectly designed timepiece ..."

Yeah, they effed the RAF one pretty badly. What's weird is that generally their date implementations are much more graceful:

Then again there's no doubt that all of the pieces shown above would've been improved if the date were deleted. And it's not like they've never gone no date:

Hopefully they'll listen to all the feedback that's been coming in. More than anything else, the date window is the killer for me.

Granted, I don't think I'm at the target pricepoint for these anyway, but putting a date window inside a subdial is just messy and feels like an afterthought. I do agree with the general consensus though. It's a bit too big, a bit too thick, and the bezel proportions are a bit out of control.

Longines is sure doing a good job of re-issues! I hope TAG don't mess up the Heuer legacy

Love longines legend diver no date... I don't think any company has reissued a watch so gracefully reproduced...but this just makes me want the vintage one more

I actually like the big thick bezel and the watch in general.

The date window is unnecessary but wouldn't stop me buying it.

Will wait and see what they release next year.

That aside I thought the process behind letting punters pick a re-issue was a stroke of genius. I wonder if Omega would ever do something similar.

It takes a bit of a shine off the process if what they release loses all the charm of what was chosen. It's like Ferrari agreeing to reissue a 250GTO then deciding it needs to be packed with electronics and have a huge wing on the back.
