i recently aquired this and see very little love! Just wondering why these are not popular? Reliable 861 movement but being dressier than a Speedy perhaps doesn't appeal. I'm a new member and just curious. Thanks. image.jpeg

Its probably the best value daily wearable dress chronograph you can buy in the Omega family, certainly nothing wrong with a Calibre 861 movement and the styling looks great.

Another good watch that omega did not follow through (long term).

Thrown into the market, once sold off they moved on to the next model... Just as the did with the solar impulse GMT and many other models.

This was a lot longer ago though and a different era for the company, mechanical watches weren't taking off as a brand quite as much yet and most of the models Omega made were still Cal 1120/1164 and so on. That Omega is very different from todays, and this watch if anything was a little out of place for its time.

I have one of these from 1997 complete with all the original paperwork, receipt and boxes. This De Ville was perhaps the right watch at the wrong time, but it hits all the right notes as a beautifully styled Omega with a Cal 861 chronograph, so I expect these to start attracting more attention at some point. I particularly like the silver on silver look. This is the only semi-modern watch I have, since everything else is firmly in vintage territory.

The only other point of concern with these is that the case from memory is a snapback which is not that common for a modern Omega but I've never seen any real water intrusion issues on these and many of the Speedmaster automatic models are also modern snapbacks so they might be fine.

Looks very good indeed...and 20 years is not vintage, just old!
I'm afraid I don't have papers, but I do have the dealer's authenticity doc (they are approved Omega service agents) and a 2 year warranty. I do think they perhaps slip under the radar and I quite like it that they don't appear too often!

Wasn't aware of water seal issues, but did hear the right tool is needed to open up the case. Perhaps the SnapBack is an additional characteristic which will add something to future value?

I very much doubt that, its a quirk of the watch but certainly not something people will one day find desirable.

I wasn't aware of this particular Omega model. I like it very much. What is the case diameter?

Thanks Tiger8888 for posting the photos.

You are probably right but I would never take anything for granted in the watch world. Collectors lose all sense of reason sometimes over small details that suddenly become hugely important.

Pleasure. It's 36.5mm...wears larger as the bezel is quite thin. I wasn't aware of it either, saw it, and had to get it!

It's 36mm excluding the crown from memory. It's quite weighty and feels solid with a fairly deep case.

    I would
I like the size. That would have been a nice watch for daily office wear before I retired.

They do wear a lot larger than 36mm due to the thin bezel and large dial so it feels more like 38+ on the wrist, comparable to something like an Ed White Speedmaster.
