Hi all, and apologies in advance for any mistakes - while I've been interested in watches generally and Omegas particularly for some time, I haven't really delved into things until recently.

With the passing of my Grandfather, who used to have a bit to do with Omega, I've inherited his collection of watches, and I'm stumped on identifying several. Chief amongst them is this black Seamaster that seems to be from about 1984, but I don't know for sure.





I'm afraid I can't get any more photos at this time, and while I've been able to do some research on most of the others I've got off him, this one is leaving me baffled.

Any tips would be much appreciated

You don‘t see them too often, especially in such a good condition. Take care of the movement, these are not too easy to find.

I fear what state the movement is in - it's not running right now, and I don't know if I'll have any luck with a new battery. The Plongeur Deluxe came back to life, but some of the others haven't

Unfortunately Grandad left all his watches unserviced for the best part of twenty years - it's fallen to me to see what can and can't be saved

 

Take them to the watchmaker without putting batteries in so they can be inspected.

Thanks for your post! I was just scrolling through the omega forum looking for information for the exact watch. I got it from my father who got it from my late grandfather, so similar story here!
May I know the progress on your seamaster calypso? Is it working after the battery change?
Mine is fortunately still working but missing the bracelet. So I changed it to a leather strap with some alteration. Anybody here know where to find the bracelet?

Wow, I'd say contact Omega, but the chances they have one aren't great. But, what the heck... contact them anyways! You might get lucky.

As for finding one... you can perhaps find something that fits. A lot of bracelets have hollow end links where the spring bar passes through a center tab. If that slot you have is a hair over 10mm, you're in luck, we have aftermarket bracelet makes who are making Omega-style bracelets with the 10mm center link. So that is worth looking at.

Just noticed there are three links in the center of the OEM bracelet. Look for black watches on eBay that have a similar bracelet and ask for measurements.

My dear old mum bought me this watch on 14th June 1986 from a respected watch supplier in Southampton, UK (model ref.: SR 396.0975). As you can see, I still have the box, international guarantee and fairly comprehensive service record (Omega UK are based in Southampton area so I could just take it down there, rather than risk posting). Interestingly I note that both your watch and the one owned by Rambardip both have a red second hand and date surround whereas mine are white(?) - perhaps changed on late models(?). I really love the fact that it’s so slim and of all my watches (bit of a weakness!) it keeps the best time. The strap has suffered a bit - I’m a wheelchair user and the black finish has a slightly “distressed” look after rubbing against my hand rims....but I quite like it.

 

Nice example and I like the "distressed" look. It shows that the watch has been loved and used and not hidden away in a safe.
The red colour on the dial can often fade much more quickly than other colours so it may be "faded red" or could well be white.

Good to see you still have the complete package too.

The dials did come with white accents, my memory has let me down again.
