Great original condition January 1981 6309-7040. All original parts. Bezel rotates smoothly and stops securely. Runs great, looks great, wears great. Looks the business on a gray NATO.

Last year of the Japan dial before the switch to the Hong Kong dial, last year of the wide-body case. First year of the flat bezel insert and later hands.

History: I purchased this in 2022 on a Seiko forum, and wear this in rotation. Fully documented overhaul in 2021 by the watchmaker who did my King Seiko 44. Selling to fund the next purchase.

Dial: Original matte black dial, early design with Suwa logo at 6 and Japan below. Dial is nearly perfect with minimal imperfections. Under magnification, a small fiber is visible on the dial at 2. Red WATER and RESIST text has faded to khaki. Silver date disk, white day disk.

Bezel: All original, with later flat insert.

Indices: Excellent condition gold dial hardware, non-cardinal indices have intact tritium markers. Tritium markers have fantastic sculpted texture under magnification.

Hands: Fair condition, original Seiko hands, exhibiting some pitting and corrosion. Intact tritium insets.

Luminous: Tritium lume with matching white appearance throughout under daylight. Dial was lightly cleaned, removing a small amount of darker lume with Rodico. The dial does not glow as much as the hands or bezel pip, which is obvious in the night shots. Little glow, fades quickly after charge, completely dark shortly thereafter.

Case: Very good condition. Original facets are still present with well defined edges throughout. Scuffs and scratches commensurate with age and use in the field, especially on the end of the lug at 5. The case definition indicates it has likely never been polished.

Measurements:
Width: 43.7 mm
Depth: 13.0 mm
Lug Width: 21.8 mm
Lug-to-Lug: 45.1 mm
Weight: 82 g / 2.85 oz

Case Back: Great Wave case back with January, 1981 serial. 7040 case number indicates this was JDM or otherwise destined for sale outside the USA. Scuffs, scratches, and a small ding.

Crown: Original Seiko, unsigned coarse-knurled crown, screws down without issue.

Crystal: I'm not entirely sure, but I believe this is Harlex.

Movement: Clean 6309, running well at 21,600bph. Non hacking, non hand-winding movement.

Service: Overhauled in 2021 by a highly respected Seiko specialist. Crown rebuilt, seals replaced, mainspring arbor ports jeweled, everything works. Watch keeps excellent time and power reserve is at least a day. Manipulating the crown for time, day, and date setting feels very good with minimal play. Turning the crown has some heft, feels somewhat like the weighted knob on a microscope, or a mid-centry FM tuner.

Photos: Shot on a Pixel 5a 5g. Cropped but otherwise untouched. Please ask if you'd like any additional photos.

Water Resistance: I've gotten this wet in the shower and had no issues. Have this pressure tested before taking it for a dive.

Scope: Sale includes like new, grey Crown & Buckle "Supreme" NATO, as shown.

Shipping: Asking price includes USPS Priority Mail with signature confirmation to USA addresses. UPS, FedEx, and/or outside USA, postage at cost. Watch is located in Washington, DC metro.

Payment: PayPal for friends (preferred) or Venmo. Other services negotiable.

SOLD head only USD $520
