I edited my post with some more information, regarding granularity of serial numbers and extracts. 3 month differences with 3k serial variance in june-sept 77, but ilove is putting 6 month difference with less then 1k in serial from Sept77 to march 78.

I fear you're right @sjg22... 'fakked' indeed! 🙁
But I'm the eternal optomist and if I keep trudging around 'car boot' sales in cold, muddy, English fields every Sunday morning I'm confident that, at some point, I will spot a discarded, tarnished, 2915-1 in amongst the worthless jumble.😀
That’s the spirit Jonathan, we’re rooting for you!👍

I gave up after my first car boot sale - I got trench foot and food poisoning! Dodgy hot dog!

The SWest provides richer hunting grounds.

Well there are a hell of a lot of muddy fields in Dorset and Devon Nathan. I think the answer is wellies and a flask of soup.😲

Donovan. When you say "birth year", are we talking case reference date or production date?
I'd like a production date. That takes a little more effort but it is obtainable. On eBay right now there are two Speedys with extracts from 1967(there were at least within the past couple of weeks). One is July I believe and the other late November
But I can't come close to buying either!

Hi, all.
Thank you for all the replies. Just want to say how impressed I am with the knowledge on this forum and the willingness to provide insight. Much better than some of the other forums I am on right now.

Hi, all.
Thank you for all the replies. Just want to say how impressed I am with the knowledge on this forum and the willingness to provide insight. Much better than some of the other forums I am on right now.

It's unquestionably the best watch forum out there and regardless of the name, a deep interest in all sorts of weird & wonderful horology pervades. Pull up a chair, have a seat, go & get yourself an avatar and post an intro to yourself on The Great Big Introductions thread.

And don't, whatever you do, spend any time in the WRUW thread; it's a clear & present danger to your fiscal & mental stability.
The Private Watch Sales forum is fertile ground though could also be dangerous to your wallet.

Welcome!
