Respectable OF members who don't bump daily😁

The post-grail-purchase spring cleaning continues: I am selling my Omega 176.007, with its fantastic Caliber 1040 👍

This is a watch I acquired via a very influential local collector (and friend!) in Spring 2018, wore with much pleasure, and has now been shortlisted to be sold to a new, loving owner, ideally in the OF community, who can help me recover financially after that recent foolish purchase of mine 😗.

Our very own @Andy K has done a fantastic job cataloguing the 1040 and all its variants on https://www.calibre1040.com/ . I can only encourage you to go learn it all by heart 😁 But to sum it up, this was Omega’s own very first automatic chronograph movement. It’s considered one of the all-time greats if only because of that asymmetric dial layout which creates an amazing visual tension, and makes all the watches bearing the 1040/1041/1045 such an important part of the funky 70’s Omega family most of us love so much.

The one I’m selling is in superb condition, with a fantastic sunburst on its 38.5mm case (ex. Crown) that has some minor marks which, as usual, are emphasized on the macro pictures. The case has sharp, very well-defined edges. The tritium dial is perfect with bright, vivid colors, and falls within the “B2: Racing Blue OAS” (https://www.calibre1040.com/cal-1040-collectors-guide-dials/type-b-dials-seamasters-176-007-176-001/ ) categorization as defined by Andy. The hands appear all original, with the wingtip fluorescent orange minute recorder intact. The Crystal is signed with the Omega logo, like the crown. Without tooting my horn too loud, this is one of the nicest 176.007 I could handle the past couple of years.

This timepiece comes with its extract of the archives. It shows the watch was produced in 1973 and delivered to Guam. It is about accurate for an almost 50 y.o. delicate lady and about 15s/d fast, and all functions work as they should. It comes on what I think is an 1162 bracelet, and 653 endlinks, but with a clasp that was apparently lifted from a 176.0014 as it is stamped 1204/212 – but to be fair, it is a VERY similar design to the 1162 clasp.

Specs:
Caliber: 1040
Case size: 38.5mm ex. crown
Crystal: Plexi, signed
Crown: Signed omega
Lug width: 22mm
Bracelet: Omega 1162/653 - the Mack Daddy of tapered metal bracelet !- with an 1204 clasp. It can easily accomodate 18.5cm wrists.
B&P: Extract provided as pictured

I would like to get 2600CHF / 2600USD / 2300EUR / 2200GBP (other currencies available upon request) including fully insured shipping from Switzerland to Western Europe, paid to my bank account, net to me. I use both Transferwise and Revolut (big up to @eugeneandresson here 😁) to save you on fees, so it mostly just looks like a “local” wire regardless of where you are in the world and is as smooth as silk a banking experience as you can get (US buyers, I'm looking at you here...). If you are in other parts of the world, let's talk about how to get it to you, I'm sure we can find a smart way 😉 If you are in the Lemanic area, then I’d be glad to give you a discount, meet you in person, hand it over to you, and the beer is on me . I am primarily looking for cash, no trades for now please.

Sales Terms: (inspired by Spacefruit's)
I only sell to bring some new pieces to my collection. I am not motivated by profit and so I have no reason to embellish or over describe, but I am not bothered by an uplift. I have (mostly) bought and sold (some) watches on www.OmegaForums.net and you can find my references by searching my username. I have met some omegaforums members in person in the Lemanic area as well as in Biel a few times, and I hope I made a good impression on them. I am not a watch dealer, I make my money elsewhere, watches are my pleasure, but I’m not a philanthropist either. I am not in the least offended by offers, as long as you aren't desperetely lowballing me - If you are, I will just ignore you 😉

Returns:
I have done my best to provide as much info as I could. I will happily answer all your questions before the sale, and snap more pictures for you. I will not take returns for this watch unless you consider it is grossly misrepresented and you are willing to have a discussion about it all, openly, on omegaforums, i.e. not by PM but into the limelight, as I value my fellow OF members opinions. I am opinionated, but not stubborn clip_image003.png

Payment:
Payment by Bank Transfer only. Paypal are a bunch of thieves. I am asking for a "net to me" amount not because I can't man up, but because depending on where the thing ships to and where payment is made from, the extras to handle this all can amount to a chunky amount of cash, which, compared to the value of this piece, can be ridiculously significant. Were I selling a $150K Daytona, I wouldn't bother, but on a smaller watch, it does make a difference. Face to face delivery is always welcome in the Lemanic area.

Thank you OF for the space!
Paul

And off to the pics now!

A superbly transparent listing…for a truly super example, of original Omega Design

I have the 176.001…and whilst they differ slightly, aesthetically…the dial, and hands are spectacularly striking

IMO…Far more attractive, and ‘period’ interesting… than the similar sized, and looking, Hodinkee ‘Speedmaster’ pastiche

GLWS !

thank you both for the positive comments 😀

yes she's a beaut' 🥰

Life is about making choices though. And we're fortunate enough in this community that choosing which fine timepieces we have to let go to let others come in are some of the tough choices we have to make on a regular basis!👍

A few nibbles already, please keep'em coming 😀

Best,
Paul
