Offering for sale only: my vintage Seamaster chronograph, ref. 176.001 cal. 1040. in stainless steel. Watch is in good vintage condition and comes with Omega Extract From the Archives dating it to March 1972. Asking $2,500 USD shipped. (Was $2,700, then $2,600)

Learn more about the Seamaster 176.001 here: https://www.calibre1040.com/cal-1040-collectors-guide-case-references/001-2/ or here: https://www.calibre1040.com/ref-176-001-prototype-first-forgotten/ Lots of pics of this exact watch there too.

If you don’t feel like reading all that, I can sum up: Reference 176.001 is pretty uncommon reference. It was among the first wave of automatic chronographs from Omega (along with the Speedmaster Mark III and Seamaster 176.007) and were made for less than a year, from mid-1971 until early 1972. They never appeared in period ads and for a while they were thought to be prototypes. Omega likely made fewer than 2,500 of this reference and they don’t come up for sale in original condition very often.

Self-winding cal. 1040 movement was serviced in 2019 and sets, starts, stops, resets, and keeps time as expected. Serial number is 316441XX and was produced on March 16, 1972 in the final days of 176.001 production. Watch will be 50 years old in a few months. Sorry I don’t have a current pic of the movement. I have a watermarked photo from the dealer I bought it from and can share privately.

Cushion style case is unpolished and in good original condition. It retains most its sharp edges but does show some surface marks, scratches, nicks and dings. The biggest nick is above one of the pushers and there is a decent gouge on the 3:00 side of the case. Please see photos.

Silver dial (A3) in excellent condition. No peeling lacquer or loss of lume dots.

Hands are original and lume is intact, but minute hand has damage and discoloration. Please see photos.

Original domed crystal is in very good shape and Omega logo is visible.

Pushers and crown functioning as they should.

Comes on replica corfam strap (not Omega) with generic buckle.

Price/Shipping
Asking $2,500 USD
which includes insured domestic US shipping. NO TRADES PLEASE. Please contact me via pm with questions or offers. I normally ship via USPS but shipping method is negotiable.

Payment
Wire, cash (watch and I are in the Chicago area), Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay. Paypal if you have references.

Buyer
Buyer must have solid references. I prefer US sales to keep things simple but I will consider international buyers on a case by case basis and only if the buyer accepts full customs declaration and covers extra shipping cost. I require this in the unlikely event of an insurance claim, I don’t want a claim denied on a technicality.

Returns
No returns unless watch is grossly misrepresented. I make no promises as to water-resistance, expose it to water at your own risk.

Reduced to $2,500 USD.

Also, posting publicly some answers to the questions I've received on this:

- Movement is keeping consistent time, losing 12-14 seconds per 24 hours (lying dial-up on a table, I haven't been wearing it)

- Takes a strap with 22mm lug width

- Strap included is a Heuer Time replica corfam

- No visible parts replaced during prior service (in 2019)

- Yes, needle/syringe tip minute hand is correct and original for this reference (as well as other early 1040 chronographs)

I second this, for what it’s worth. This is a nice, rare, bird!

Uncle Seiko do a nice bracelet for it with solid end links as well....
I would love to have this watch but have an ongoing 176.007 project to fund....
Someone should snap it up...
