So I just got a the new Aqua Terra World Timer and had it shipped to my parents in Florida.

My parents neighbor was over and said “you know, I have an Omega I bought for $99 in 1969… I have all the paperwork, maybe Mike can help me with it”…

He came to my parents and showed this!

He said he bought it, wore it for 10 years and never touched it since. It’s in pretty rough shape. But I find it incredible. I was Trying to do some research for him but figured there was no better place to ask then here.

he asked me, if he were to sell it, should he replace the crystal? and how much would it be worth?

I told him “DO NOT TOUCH IT!” But as value goes, I have no clue… 10k?!

truly speechless seeing it! Paperwork and all!

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
    -Mike

Congrats you do not have a 145.022-69

    You have a 321 powered 145.012

    https://speedmaster101.com/145-012/

New hesalite, and that will look awesome. The modern bracelet detracts IMHO... But great piece! Do not let a nonexpert service it, and do not senf it to Omega for service. The value is in the originality of the piece.

This is an awesome source! Thank you!
Any idea on a rough value for a piece like this? If and when he decides to sell it?

    thanks!

Ballpark is $6,000 to $8,000 USD. Maybe a bit more if I had it in hand.

Reference Poor Fair Good Very Good Excellent

    145012-67 4,500 5,500 8,000 13,500 18,000

The watch pictured is Fair to Good (based on the photos, which don't really give me a full overview)

    BUT!

The bracelet, paperwork and box all add to the value, especially as it underpins the story and history.

This falls into the original group, that some collectors will wildly over pay for.

Ok. I have been known to over pay for::facepalm2::. I don't think I am alone.

Just to be clear, its not the presence of papers and box that increases the value, It is the fact they corroborate the history.

It is the history that adds value.

Also, i am a bit concerned about the case back

Oh boy... That's a great find!

Curious to see what appears after applying some poly watch (or toothpaste) and gaining some elbow grease... That plexy needs a little love.

Pretty cool that it was purchased just about a month prior to the Moon landing too!

Thank you for sharing this cool story!

Just got off the phone with John, as I shared with him all the information. He does have the original bracelet - pictured. 50802826-ECEC-45C0-9C71-134BC923A189.jpeg

he does not remember why it was removed in the first place.

he had it serviced in 1995 - but his address is on it so I dont Want to post it.

I told him just how amazing we all were to see this and hear his story.

John’s story - “I was a 2 year proud Army Vietnam draftee. The watch was purchased in West Germany after my 18 months with the Army. This was bought 5 days prior to my return to the states at the PX on base. I heard and saw advertisement for the ‘watch that is going to the moon’ and the watch the astronauts use. So I saved up for months and upon learning I was going home I paid the $99 dollars for it. Which was at the time almost a months pay. Come to find out a month later we went to the moon. I never wore it, I just held onto it. A couple years later I worked construction and was climbing polls and operating machinery. I realized I had This gorgeous watch that wasn’t being worn, so I wore it. I know, construction wasn’t the best idea for a gorgeous watch… but then I put it away, never wore it… then got a job in business. I started to wear it again in the 80s anytime I had to wear a tie. I havent worn it now in over 30 years - and deciding what to do with it. Most likely I’ll give it to one of my knuckle head nephews. But I need To wait for them to have a voice of reason”

So the watch is not for sale. For those that have messaged me about it. However, if it ever did - you better believe I’d offer him and keep it as is forever!
Thanks again for all the help!!

    -Mike

Great watch, even a better story. With a bit of TLC, this thing will turn from a pumpkin into a beautiful rose. Treat it with much care and keep all original parts. I'm sure you inbox is/will be flooded with low ball offers....sharks are always lurking under calm water.

    Good luck.
