This one has some issues (caseback, hands, bezel, etc.) but dang that dial is beautiful! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Spe...026346?hash=item1a09a60aaa:g:mgAAAOSwnipWUmS6Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
I must admit that is really a rare dial. I have never seen one of these in the flesh, having seen possibly any Speedmaster variation and overhauled more than a few 2915s. If I were a collector, I would have chased it.
At that value though? Even if the seller would accept an offer at ~20% of his asking price I don't know that the dial is worth that much... no? (I am not knowledgeable about dial values)
I think the dial alone could sell for approx 10K$. I was hesitating to pull the trigger when I saw the eBay listing, but I'm saving for a 2998-1 or -2.
I am skeptical that the dial is worth $10k on its own. Unless one happens to have a confirmable example that needs a new dial, it can only end up as part of a franken. I don't know how many legit examples there are with this dial (or if it can even be known/documented) but it can't be many.
It would be interesting to know the particulars - if any - of which references and movement numbers would be correct for these dials. They are catching, that's for sure.
