1969 Seamaster Chronometers - a transitional year

It recently dawned on me that I have accumulated two cal 564 Seamaster Chronometers nominally from 1969 according to Omega's serial number chart, and I think they make for an interesting contrast illustrating the design changes at Omega during that time.

The 166.010 reflects the older small chunky curved lug style case, tapered polished bezel, sunburst dial, and BoR bracelet, while the 168.022 has a more modern larger case with sharply faceted lugs, a flat bezel with radial brushing, a distinctive sparkle dial and a sporty 1125 bracelet.

Interesting that they were basically contemporaneous.

Very interesting indeed, thanks for sharing the observation. Cool examples too. 馃憤

I'd own 'em!

I'd wear 'em too!

I would slightly favor the styling of the older one with its bracelet, but would also be keen on the updated one if it came my way.

Thank you for a great series of nice photos in a good reference thread on a facet of Omega model history.

They are both great to wear IMO, Omega made some attractive and comfortable bracelets.

Both are beautiful 馃憤馃憤馃憤. The 168.022 however I would like a bit more; this model exists in white gold as 168.0023 (1977, day-date and IMO a grail)

I would not have thought those two models could be contemporaries. It would be interesting to see how they were described in catalogs of the time.

I hear you. Not extremely close in serial numbers, but 30M and 31M range, respectively, so by conventional wisdom both are from 1969. And you can see that the dial printing is really similar.

Certainly not doubting it, of course. I keep finding out how narrow my knowledge and tastes are with regard to these late 1960s鈥揺arly 70s watches. Recently I鈥檝e been wearing a slightly older 166.011 I鈥檝e posted about and it鈥檚 like driving a car with fins.
