Hello - late yesterday evening i was looking around on yahoo japan and I happen to see this Omega 166.062 with a few minutes left to run. I actually have never seen one before and I was taken by its appearance right away. Also the condition for its age, it looks ok, the lume and dial look nice, the bezel seems to be reasonably intact.

I decided to bid and I won.

Im pretty happy with it, but what are you thoughts? In the end it cost $1850USD

The bracelet is wrong, so I will need to source another correct one eventually. It will need an overhaul too.

So do you think its ok? Did I overpay? Im never usually this impulsive. Once I saw it I looked at other ones on chrono24 and ebay and they were double and triple the price I paid.

Im pretty sure its the blue version, but gosh it looks black in some photos.

I think it looks fine, and a fair price, as long as you don't get stuck with expensive handling and shipping fees and/or import duties. Are you in Japan?

I also think you’ve found a good deal.
A new crystal plus retaining ring (maybe just polish the crystal) along with a full service and this will come up great.
The bezels on these do look black but they are actually very dark blue. Be careful with the bezel as they are no longer available!
I love mine and it’s probably the watch I wear the most.

That’s one of my favorite Seamaster’s- congrats on a great find!
And welcome to the forum, you seem to be going hard and fast. You’ve gotten lucky twice (three times if you count the bracelet you wanted), and I hope your winning streak continues.
There are some great stickies on what to look for when buying vintage Omega, worth the read.

So are there any real know mechanical issues with these or are they rock solid? In my eyes the sign of a good watch is when they consistently turn up with nice dials and hands with very little sign of common water incursion. The examples I have seen of these all seem to look fantastic. Considering most are over 50 years old, thats pretty good.

Is it the angle or is the six o’clock marker actually misaligned?

Well it arrived and it looks fantastic. The seller sold it as requiring a service. So far it is keeping excellent time. The seller also stated the 'date function was broken'. Well they obviously havent heard about how the quickset date change works on a 166, as it is snapping over crisply.

Case looks good too. No cracks in the bezel insert or water damage, looks very nice.

It was just the angle, it aligns perfectly. Also its original lume.

Nice pick-up, I didn't know about this one, but now I want one!
Me either? Its a weird one thats for sure. I'd never heard about it, knew nothing about them. It was love at first sight and I threw a bid at it an surprisingly won.
