·Hi All.
Please find for sale my 1969 Pre-moon Omega Speedmaster, with the 861 cal manual wind movement.
I bought this watch from the estate of the original owner in the U.S. at the start 2014. An American gentleman bought it brand new in 1970 and it was his 'best' watch and I was told, only worn for special occasions and to church on Sundays. This is reflected in the great overall condition. I bought it with the intention of wearing it as my daily wearer, however, the urge to try and locate a nice condition 'Ed White' Speedmaster, means I'm reluctantly putting it up for sale.
It is in excellent condition, with the crisp pre-moon caseback and nice sharp edges. I don't believe it has ever been polished. It has also recently received a full service by 'Watchguy' in the UK. Please see pics for further details of the condition.
Dial: Original stepped black dial. Tritium markers which glow faintly for a couple of minutes if excited by a light source. In excellent condition with no scratches or damage and no loss of tritium. I believe the hands may have been replaced as they are in such good condition. However if so, this must have been done a long time ago as both the dial and hands only glow for a couple of minutes in the dark. After a few minutes, neither the dial nor the hands glow as to be expected with a watch of this age. The only issue with the dial is that since the service there is a speck of dust underneath the 2 o'clock marker. It just didn't bother me enough to get it removed.
Bezel: Original DoN bezel in excellent condition.
Caseback: Pre-moon caseback, in great condition, nice and crisp. Stamped 145022-69 ST.
Case: Original stainless steel case in great condition. The sides retain the original brushed factory finish. No corrosion. At the service in June '14 the watch passed the pressure test with no pressure loss after 1 minute (although personally, I wouldn't be getting it too wet).
Movement: Original 861 movement with a 2911xxxx serial, serviced in June '14 by Christian at Watchguy UK. Working perfectly, with all chrono functions operating as they should. I can supply a screen shot of the on-line service record from Christian.
Bracelet: The original 1039 bracelet that was supplied with the watch, stamped 1 70 (first quarter of 1970 which corresponds with the watch being a 1969 model, bought in early 1970). Correct 516 endlinks.
I think that's about it. Overall it's a great watch, in great condition, that I intended to keep (hence the full service with a full strip down, clean, new main-spring and seals). Unfortunately, I'm now looking to move it on to fund another purchase. I'm located in the UK so I presume a UK sale would be easiest, however I will consider shipping worldwide.
Price: £1995 including UK postage. Happy to accept bank transfer, transferwise or PayPal (buyer to pay fees or send as a gift).Free postage within the UK. Worldwide postage at cost price. I'm located in Leeds, UK and happy to meet face to face.
Any questions or queries please ask.
