Selling my prized 166.010 Seamaster with an unusual gilt black dial in beautiful condition, with original thin scalloped crown. This watch was given a full service in December 2023.

The 166.010 is a classic design, which I’ve owned a number of examples of. I was stoked to find this one, which not only has a genuinely scarce original black dial with no deterioration, but also sports the model’s original thin scalloped crown. Ikeda-san at Ayase Opt in Tokyo painstakingly shored up the packing on this no-longer-available crown to make it more water-resistant. The case may be unpolished, and has visible vertical brushing on the sides. I have tried to document the few dings I can see through a loupe. The glossy dial is a challenge to photograph but seems to be in wonderful shape. The hands have become a little grainy when viewed under magnification. The crystal has the Omega logo in the center and has no significant scratches—the white visible in the photos are all lint and/or rampant reflections from the dial and the cyclops lens. The cyclops crystal is not considered correct for the 166.010, but is extremely prevalent on these models in Japan. One more rare feature: Look at all the zeroes in the serial number.

I would like to keep this one as I don’t think I’ll ever find another like it, but here we are.

Price: US$1499 head-only*

* Examples of this model have been sold on the forum with the 1502 beads-of-rice bracelet and No. 11 endlinks, which is how I’ve worn the watch, but I seem jinxed by BoR bracelets. No one buys my watches with these (beautiful) bracelets until I offer them without, so here’s my idea: The watch is offered head-only, but if you want a period-correct good-condition BoR bracelet to complement this design—and why wouldn’t you—I will include a vintage 1502/11 bracelet with the cost of shipping from Japan (about $25 to most of the world). If you prefer the watch without a strap or bracelet, I will ship it to you for free.

Please check the photos carefully as they are part of the description. My references, they are below.

The continuous line from the lug to the case when viewed from the side is the most gorgeous part of this ref. Plus the black dial 🥰🥰🥰

Photographing this glossy thing is a huge challenge. I only hope I’ll have a chance to try again in the future.

I’m sorry to see it go but happily it is staying in the family.
