1957-2017 = 60 years Omega Speedmaster

Although the 27 CHRO C12 compact chronograph mechanism, later renamed 321, existed already for 11 years, Omega SA started the development & design of the Omega Speedmaster in early 1957. The chronograph was aimed to hit retailers & stores by Christmas/NewYear 1957 but appeared in shops by January 1958.
Nevertheless, in 33 days we'll be in the 60th anniversary year of our beloved Speedy... 1957-2017 expecting lots of events, publications, etc... 馃嵖

This has all been discussed before, but it bears repeating that 1957 was also the introduction of the Seamaster 300 and the Railmaster. The Seamaster 300 has already been updated / reissued and has been a pretty big hit.... 馃槜

I've been holding vigil outside the Omega office since 2015 and nothing yet. Maybe 2017 will be the year. I'm getting hungry and I have to go to the bathroom.

Of course there'll be the 50th commemoration/remembrance of the Apollo 1 fire 馃檨 with of a memorial monument at Arlington cemetery...
Don't forget all upcoming Half-a-century anniversaries... opportunities for re-issue Speedmaster chronographs with correct 1960s era dials;
DEC 2018 = Apollo 8
JUL 2019 = Apollo 11

Well there'll be the opening of the new "interactive" Omega museum in Bienne / Biel Switzerland !

Not much to commemorate for 1967, no manned missions, so no Speedmasters in space...

60 years might not be such a special number and Omega SA might skip a year as 2018 will have the first of the half-a-century anniversaries of Apollo 7 and Apollo 8 (wonderful Christmas 1968 mission)... starting a series to culminate in July 2019 (Apollo 11)...
2017 will be interesting for some scoops & historic revelations and great events !

Well, with only 20 days to go until 2017... there's already a great updated publication, which highlights some of the recent findings & facts about the selection of the Omega Speedmaster by NASA and its use during the historic ASTP - Apollo Soyuz Test Program mission of July 1975.
Omega Speedmaster Apollo Soyuz "the first" ( High quality print softcover with 134 glossy pages ).
This well-illustrated book focuses on early NASA selection, speedmaster movement, hardware details of Apollo Soyuz Limited Edition, service manual and the actual ASTP mission with rare NASA photos.
