Good Evening Friends,

I’ve recently acquired a 1955 Seamaster Certified Chronometre of the Calibre 354 variety. I’m certain I paid more than its “market value” but I’ve had my heart set on a 50’s Seamaster Certified Chronometre for a couple of years ever since I found one and returned it to its rightful owner - so, its value is determined by how much I was willing to pay for it. I am quite certain it’s entirely original - the acrylic crystal has the small Omega symbol on the underside center, the pie-pan dial is aged enough for the period, the movement, caseback, etc. all seem to match.

My question regards with whom should I trust to service the watch? It keeps time but I’m certain it hasn’t been cleaned and lubed appropriately for a long time. I live on the east coast of the United States around Washington, D.C. and there are numerous reputable watch repair shops in the area, but I presume I shouldn’t trust any reputable watch shop with a 65 year old Omega.

Do I need to ship it off to someone who specializes in vintage Omegas specifically?

Every serious swiss watch trained watchmaker should be able to service this movement as this is not rocket science to do.

But take a watchmaker who has a parts account in case parts have to be replaced - but because of the age of the watch not every part will be readily available...

Locally to you, classicwatch.com is very reputable, if not cheap. Zaf Basha is the owner.

I just received the Seamaster back from an overhaul done by Zaf Basha at ClassicWatch.com, LLC out of Washington, D.C. and I must say it was excellent service. I filled out a form online, he responded within an hour with instructions, shipped it to him, and he had it back three weeks later after conducting an overhaul and a few days of testing and adjustment. I definitely recommend him to anyone on the east coast of the U.S.; reasonably priced too.

Damn. Three weeks. I'm happy when I get it back within 3 months....
