Hi , I rediscovered my dad’s 1950’s seamaster. Does anyone have more information about it and can anyone recommend omega repair specialists in london to get it refurbished. I would also be interested in a valuation so that I can get it insured. It’s a beautiful watch and needs a little tlc.
There are several models that look like that but I suspect it is a model 2848 from the late 1950s. Or it could be model 2576 or 2766 from earlier but I'm leaning towards the first guess. If you show a photo of the caseback we can narrow it down.
The dial looks to be a service replacement dial from rather more recent intervention. Or it could be a redial (repaint) but I am leaning towards service dial. The Seamaster font like that wasn't seen in period. Both rounded and coathanger Ss were seen, but that looks like the modern version to me. The crown has also been replaced at some point
Value will depend greatly on if the case is gold cap or solid gold, I am guessing gold cap. Oh just noticed you describe it as plated: it wont be, gold cap is thicker but still not solid so I see what you mean. Again a pic of the back will help determine this. Gold cap watches have steel uncoated lugs underneath.
