The little Omega hands are cool... but other than that, meh...

But then, I’m a hopeless American watch addict.

I paid less than half that amount in Canadian dollars for the Louis Brandt 19-jewel, grade CCR that I showed, earlier in this thread. It is very much the same watch, but much higher grade. Prices for watches in areas where watch collectors congregate, tend to be high. You be the judge. It’s your money. But I wouldn’t even pay half the 600+ dollars that it sits at, right now. As was mentioned earlier, many collectors in this hemisphere prefer American made watches. I’m afraid I am one of those.

I have uploaded a picture of one of my three Swiss pocket watches. I paid $150.00 Canadian for this one. I refused it when it was offered to me for FREE! I told the guy it was worth $150.00 to me. Ideally, you should be knowledgeable about what you are looking for, and buy from someone who doesn’t know what they have.

Maybe you can guide the OP for his Christmas present for his father? It's such a lovely gesture..... And still enough time to get from somewhere around the globe.

The poster should perhaps spend some time going through the thread “Learning how to Fish”, here:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/learn-how-to-fish.52603/

The Omega watch he is looking at has not yet reached its ultimate selling price. The seller is asking a premium price because the case is marked 9 karat gold. The case is worth maybe maximum &450.00 for scrap, less the buyers premium. Add a bit for the movement. So $550.00 tops. It’ll probably go for twice that. That’s too much to pay for that watch. Better watches in gold FILLED cases should be available for 1/3 to 1/2 what that one will likely sell for.

Probably 80% of my watches found their way to me, rather than my standing in line behind a number of other collectors who all want to look at the same watch. I have never paid more than $450.00 Canadian for a pocket watch. And I would have preferred to pay less for that particular one. But the seller was desperate!

If he likes it, it’s his money after all. But if he bides his time, I know he could do much better!

I don´t think so - you can´t compare the OP´s watch to a CCR as the Louis Brandt is of higher grade and so beautifully refined/decorated while the posted watch is pretty "sober".

OP´s watch is not a DDR or "very best" as it is much smaller and less refined. It is rare but I would not go for it... 9K is not considered gold in the region I live, the gold content is far too low... a PW should at least have 14K or 18K in my books...

That the Brandt CCR is a much higher grade than the subject 1927 Omega chronometer that is the subject of this thread is exactly what I said in the post you refer to! Please go back and read that post again. Read the first and second sentences again. How could you possibly infer that I was saying that the Omega was a higher grade than the Brandt CCR?

Sorry Canuck, I obviously mis-read your sentence... it is 6:10 a.m. here and I should not post when my brain is still half sleeping...

It closed today at £1247 / $1717 all in. More than 3x. Must be Rolex buyers out there. ::stirthepot::
