I read your "...naughty twist on the clasp for a better aesthetic." with some amusement and approval. I have rather large wrists, and for whatever reasons straps are not very comfortable on me. I almost always wear bracelets with enough space to slip my pinkie under. This frequently puts me in the position of being on the hunt for bracelets for watches on straps that I just couldn't pass up. In the case with Omega that often means that I am looking at paying almost as much for the bracelet as I won the watch head for. Since I rarely buy watches with resale in mind I am less concerned that everything be 100% original, particularly the bracelet or even extra links to extend it to a wearable length. If a good quality replica bracelet is available for a fraction of an original Omega I certainly will avail myself of one. I recently got a bracelet for a Dynamic from the UK, that just happened to be far superior to the original. Only thing that I didn't like was the generic clasp, so I put the clasp from the original on and it looks great. I guess that is a naughty twist, and I feel no remorse for the pleasure of looking down and seeing that greek symbol.

Bought this a little while ago, very excited. This seems the most used thread. And good info for me, since the 1040 website seems down for a while.

It's been pretty banged up, but underneath, the dial looks perfect, and I don't really mind the case being worn. My local watchmaker is so booked up, he'll have it for a year, but he'll also do a full service for much less than others.

I also picked up an original domed crystal, which seems uber rare, but maybe a lot of this can be polished out. Might save it for later.

Per the wife, only 1 watch is allowed. So maybe I'll end up with 3 or 4, can't stretch it more than that, you know, propriety. But this one I'll wear the rest of my life, just love how the busy-ness all ties together into something functional. If they made this today, it would fit right in. But maybe they'd make it larger. Many thanks to this forum, I've learned a lot. Got an insane deal on this, due to condition, and even after service, replacing a few missing parts inside, and new crystal, I'll come out just fine. Not that it matters if I'll wear it for the next 50 years.

The crystal and the caseback show many scratches, but the case seems pretty clean based on the first two pictures. As for the dial, it appears perfectly preserved. The hour and minute hands seem to be losing their lume though, so that's something your watchmaker may have to address.

Overall, a great acquisition. It may need a tiny bit of work, but it ticks almost all boxes already. Congratulations!

This is not the kind of case I like because of my small wrist but with 38mm it works.
I don't know if it has its original glass but this one has the Omega logo.
