Im really looking for a new 114060 at the minute but called into a local jeweller this morning to see if they had any used watches that might be of interest.

Nothing on display but after a quick chat a 16710 GMT came out of the back. This isn't a model that was really on my radar but I was surprised how much i liked it on the wrist and the red gmt hand really lifts the overall look.

It was described as a 2003 watch, it has solid end links and lug holes which I believe is about right for this period. It has had a polish which isn't ideal, but has been serviced, comes with a 12 month warranty and box and papers. Asking is £8500.

Any thoughts on price and condition?

Looks like a decent watch. Priced at dealer level (high) but serviced (peace of mind) and a full package makes it a stress free purchase.

Actually, the price is ok. Some pay more for the lug holes/sel models although I thought they were around 2001/2. Nice watches. I love mine and easy to get the other bezels/jubilee from RSC too.

personally I’ve always preferred over the sub. Wears beautifully flat on the wrist. As above, I think the price is pretty fair given where you see these go to. If you can knock them a few quid off I think you will have done very well for a full set.

I personally prefer the GMT over the sub as it’s more versatile, essentially get 3 watches for the price of one by changing inserts.
At around $11k, you can buy an unpolished condition. The watch in question is not bad, but I wouldn’t pay the ask,to me, it’s worth around $10k.

good luck.

The U.K. is slightly more expensive for some reason. The price is fair for here compared to many out there based on year etc.but like you say if you can get a few quid off all the better

In $ regions you probably can get a better price, but I do think it's pretty reasonable for the Uk.

The bigger issue is the fact that it has been slightly polished which I'm not a fan of. Am I right in thinking that these later 16710's had almost zero chamfer on the lugs though?

My preference would be the OP’s GMT over any newer, six-digit reference model.

Very nice. So the sides on the one I'm looking at have certainly been repolished.

I think I'll nip back in a couple of days for a better look and confirm the serial etc, then decide whether it's worth an £8k bid.

Yes, it would certainly look that way, but it doesn’t look to have been butchered and I think it’s a nice watch for wearing.

Here’s mine, bought from orig owner. Also, look at the lug holes, no sign of cratering.

Good point. I assume originally the lug hole have a uniform width, but tend to 'open out' or taper out at the lug when polished?

Right on, that’s a tell sign of a polish. Now, they can easily be filled / laser welded and then re-drilled by experts. I usually look for other signs, such as the green sticker, to make an assessment.

Either way, 16710/700/760/750 is a great modern reference to own. Just find the right one and you’re set for a long time.

Since you mentioned the 114060, it gives me an excuse to post mine 👍

More than a minor polish IMO.

I agree actually. Probably not one I'm going to go with but it's certainly opened me up to the 5 digit GMTs/Subs.

The lugs are still thick enough to support a case restoration, but it would be an extra cost.

A few pics of mine, unpolished. '98 Swiss only dial coke bezel. Bevels on the lugs are a bit hard to see on the pics but the lugholes are sharp.

SEL and lug holes was accesible between the second half of the year 2000 until the end of 2003. This is a favorite combination for many fans. 5 digit Rolexes were a class of its own. The price sounds ok to me. Within the last couple of months, 2 different people have approached me on the street and have offered me spontaneously chf 12.000 for mine, but this one is NOT for sale. LN (the black bezel) is the true classic for me, and classic never goes out of style, it seems.
Good luck with your hunt.
This is mine.
