Hello, I have a 14K Gold Omega watch with a black dial and a large gold dot at the 12 position, has anyone seen one of these who can tell me a little about the watch, have had it for around 40 years and would like to know about its age/history and what the value is. Thank you for your help Tom
Tom Why do you think that's an Omega? It looks like the Museum Watch, a classic Nathan George Horwitt design made by Movado since 1948.
Hi Tom, welcome to OF! Hmm, I agree with Lou in that it looks like a Movado Museum, but something about that gold dot at 12 looks off. I'm no expert (Lou definitely is!), but it seems big in comparison to others that I have seen. Condition looks good from the submitted photos.
Jayjay LeCooter... there is undoubtedly someone by that name in my fair city... gonna check the phone book.
Omega did make a museum style watch, but before I declare this one of them I want to see the insides.
I say that's impossible. Beyond ignorant. Beneath the level of intelligence required to paint a dial black and slap a gold dot at 12 o'clock. Inconceivable!
Nope, it is all good. We've been down this road before. http://omegaforums.net/threads/need-help-badly.851/ http://www.ebay.com/itm/OMEGA-Ultra-Rare-Full-Size-Museum-MOMA-Watch-14kt-Solid-Gold-Cal-815-/251085840751?Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network These were made by a number of manufacturers including JLC and Omega before Movado purchased exclusive rights to the design. https://www.brooklynmuseum.org/opencollection/objects/112913/Museum_Watch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_George_Horwitt#The_Museum_Watch I think there were even a few Zenith versions of these made when Movado and Zenith were one company. http://irhomdeys.blogspot.com/2009/10/very-rare-limited-edition-movado-zenith.html Ignore the dial and look at the case and movement on the one above. Hope this helps, gatorcpa
I was inclined to be blunt on the assemption that it`s clearly a Movado Museum dial with Zenith movement, since I own one of those beauties. Good I`ve pulled back and waited, Gator had a good point and I would have sounded foolish... Here is mine, if anybody interested, PM please, it`s up for sale.
Thank you all for your help, will be taking the watch to the jewelers today and take a photo of the inside and post pic's, does anyone know the value? Thank you again for your help
My jeweler and I took photos of the mechanism and inside back cover. The tiny circle on the mechanism reads "OMEGA SWISS 35231377 UNADJUSTED' then either "825" or "625" and the bottom text below is not legible. The inside back case reads "OMEGA WATCH CO. 14K GOLD B&A D6848 21900." Your feedback will sure be welcomed!
Your watch exactly matches the one in the prior thread and eBay listing (they are the same watch). Serial number is close, too. It is a cal. 625 movement. Looks perfect to me, gatorcpa
Many thanks for your feedback, gatorcpa! I did just see a typo I made on my last post: The number on the inside case back should read D6858 21900 (which is, indeed, really close to the one in the prior thread!). I am assuming the serial number for the watch is 35231377 which is found on the mechanism but did not see a similar number noted on the prior eBay listing thread. I would also be curious to find out how we know that Omega only made this watch from 1973 to 1975. ? Finally, for what it's worth, I will be auctioning this watch on ebay, too, probably in the next week or so. Many thanks again for all who helped! tenacious tom
Picture of the other watch's serial number in is the thread link: http://omegaforums.net/threads/need-help-badly.851/#post-8345 No problem with the typo, as your pictures tell the story. Might I suggest that you post the watch here on the Omega Forums sales site first? You might be pleasantly surprised gatorcpa
