Good morning I know this isn't a 2852 broad arrow that I'm hunting for but I ran across this at an auction house I've successfully purchased a few pieces from in the past including a mint Speedy. They post terrible low quality pictures but I find that allows for potentially lower strike price if you want to take some risk. So based on my hours of trying to learn if it's authentic and or redialed, can someone give me their thoughts? I think it's original and not redialed but I'm still not 100%.
My thinking is that the case looks like it has sharp edges and chamfers. Filthy with a very scratched crystal but the dial seems nice if you can look past the scratches.
Some cons: listed as not running, movement has spots on on photos, not original crown.
My thinking, it just needs a deep cleaning, full service, new crystal and sourced crown. Right now it's $700 USD ending later this evening. Should I take the risk and where should I cap my commitment?

Pretty good case.
Good dial except for the degradation appearing around the star.

BTW the term is ‘arrowhead dial’ not ‘broad arrow’ which is generally reserved for a particular style of watch hands.

I believe you are right about your list of works to get the watch back in shape ! Hence if you get for 700 to 850USD it's in my opinion a good deal ! Good luck !

Ah! Thank you for the clarification! With regards to the star degradation (which I see now) is that common for one area to have it but not on another part of the dial?

If the star fell off at some point it was likely either glued or soldered back on the dial. Either method could cause damage if not done properly.

It could also just be damage to the crystal. Hard to tell from photographs provided.

I’m pretty sure that whatever is happening it is on the dial.

the area around the star can degrade but there are often signs around the indices also.
However, there appears to be something going on around the centre of the dial under the hands too.

Hmmm, I think I may have to pass on this one then. Thanks for the eagle eye!

Now, back to looking for a 2852 arrowhead dial!

I think so to. Put in a bid and see what happens.
Original crystal too.

It just closed and someone picked it up for $1,125.

I don't think I've ever seen a hornback strap on a watch. Very nice!
