Was pleasantly surprised at the little interest there was in this lot at the auction last week in the UK. Came with a 7 row 1503 BOR, documents of last service in 2012 and hand written letter from owner who bought it new in Johannesburg 1966. It is in lovely condition in particular the dial.
Off to Chris for a clean and correct crown which was changed at the last service. I believe a decagonal is on the majority of examples I have seen.

I have one like yours, dial condition is not as perfect but the script looks gold.

Is yours a gilt dial?
Regards.

oh yea baby! Pure 50's-60's snazz. I could envision them years ago on the wrists of swingin cats cruising thru the desert highway out of L.A. heading to Vegas!

On the right is a 1967 168.005 and on the left is a 1962 14900 so going by reference I think we're good and I'm a fan of 3 so need another. Tks

How nice they are. Reinforces the value of believing that there are still some wonderful finds out there, just waiting for the diligent collector to pounce.

Totally agree. I have to believe that there are still top condition examples out there, otherwise I would shut up shop and stop collecting. I am adding to my collection by ~2 watches a year with examples that tick my boxes.

I had recently decided (almost) that my relatively small Constellation collection was sufficiently diverse and of high enough quality not to actively seek additions. I am a collector who likes to have a few really nice things, rather than a lot of lesser pieces.

Then I see something like your black dial Constellation that knocks my socks off. Damn.

I've looked at your pictures a couple of times by now and I know that the word "stunning" is best to be avoided here.

"Breathtaking beauty" might be the best term that comes to my mind instead... 👍

I want to correct the crown on this when I send it to CJN for a service next month. From the documents that came with it the crown was changed at the last service. If anyone has one they are willing to let go of it would be much appreciated(WTB also done). tks, Marcus

The correct crown is the #4204.......

Best of luck. I tried to find one a few years ago, unsuccessfully. Hope your search goes better as this watch is an absolute banger.

That's a lovely watch! I have the correct crown on my '66 Connie but you'll have to buy the whole watch if you want it. I believe this crown is discontinued and unavailable, however a similarly shape crown which is slightly larger is still available.
