Very keen to see some discussion on this Omega Constellation Black Dial 168.005 (I think). It was found in a toolbox recently by a family member. Any thoughts on it? legit? - what do the Connie experts think?

Very bad copy (I don't like word "fake")
Interesting. What do you say gives it away? (Copy is better than fake. I get that.)

It is simple, model like that doesn't exist .
If you can see, everything on it is very pure quality, no sharpness, wrong shapes, wrong font, markers, dial, casecack, case... everything
Sorry

It’s a very simplified counterfeit of the dogleg case. Lugs are too wide, sides have no beveling, caseback stars are rough shaped and wrongly placed, none of it is close to authentic. I’ve seen these before and a similar generation of Seamaster De Villes like these quite a few times.

I'm happy to call this a fake—the dial has about a dozen things wrong with it, from 168.005s not having that texture (to my knowledge) to the printing itself to the placement of the printing. Also: black dialed vintage Seamasters and Constellations can be a minefield; it's for sure worth some time to dig into things to learn more so you don't end up buying something you regret.

Haha...nothing to be sorry about. I suspect the MOY test then is not definitive in either direction.

I mean, no, the test is not definitive in-and-of-itself, but, as with all tests, requires an understanding of when/how to use it. Most folks who know Connies well enough to know the MOY test would've stopped way before that, on realizing, for instance, the applied hippocampus and Omega logo are both clearly very wrong, or any of the things @dsio noted.

Unfortunately no one test needed there 🤷‍♂️
