this pre-moon has a lot of flaws, but its case has not experienced too much pollution, and above all its mechanism is clean.

1) the bezel is a 2004 model. It is not difficult to find a DNN
2) the crown comes from a Mark II. there too no difficulty in finding the right model
3) same for the original hesalite glass
4) hands ... the subject begins to become more complex.
all hands have been very roughly repainted. still parts to change.
the second hand must obviously be changed.
some of the tritium in the minute and hour hands has fallen off.
do we have to relume?
5) and finally the thorny subject, the dial. what to do ?
the indexes have suffered a lot, there are traces of tools which damaged the black paint.
Should we leave its traces of life or have it repainted (and by whom)?

when I see this kind of work, I want to apply the Sharia of collector by throwing a stone at the bad guy who mistreated it:whipped:

Catawiki?

Personally I’d find another project. That dial/hands is beyond salvaging (for me).

Assuming DNN is correct for the watch. Perhaps check the serial before investing in a new bezel.

Not normally something I would pursue, but in this case, if you already own the watch, I think that re-luming the dial and hands would make the watch more wearable. There are a couple of recommendations commonly made for re-luming. You can find them with a search.

Have you bought the watch? if not, how much is it? If you bought the watch, how much did you pay?

To me, cost is the deciding factor for most of my restorations. When the restoration is finished will I have spent more than the watch will be worth? If the answer is yes, most likely I will not proceed.

a friend bought it for $ 3000 on ebay without asking for advice. he thought it was a good deal ... luckily the mechanism is good.
I think there is some for $ 2000 to make it attractive and fun to wear

Let's be honest here, only William would find that watch attractive.
::facepalm1::

So a $5,000 watch.

That seems slightly rich, but all this hidden QE inflation has made people happier to spend more on this sort of thing. I don't criticise your thinking, and anyway this is the watch you bought, so lets move on.

These projects rarely make financial sense, and thus our endeavours are described as a "Hobby".

I do agree, it could be a fun watch. And the world is your oyster.

There are a couple of routes to go down. You could put it to correct spec, by sending the dial for reluming with James Hymen, and fitting a full set of repainted and aged hands. Tracking down a a DNN bezel may not be as easy as you might think, I have been keeping an eye open for one for a while.

You will then end up with a restored watch that if,(Big IF!) do it right, might be pleasurable - but I doubt it will scratch the itch for a '69.

Remember, its hard to make a fine watch from a restoration of a poor quality watch.

But you can also only Hot-Rod a poor condition watch...

So...Hot Rod!

yes the prices have exploded. people have fun buying a watch because they could no longer travel, go to shows, play sports ...

it is not mine but that of a somewhat impulsive friend.
I prefer to buy yours 😁

for a few months now, I have found that there are fewer and fewer parts. even 1501 boxes are rare, although I easily saw them 1 year ago.
And sorry William, but when the parts are in England, since Brexit, it's a money pit!

I doubt it will scratch the itch for a '69.
absolutely agree with you

I don't know James Hymen. how to reach him?
I was also told about Roberto Tarabella in Italy. does anyone know him?

in any case, thank you all for sharing your opinion. this forum is really nice
