I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to give me any information about this watch. (Tentatively, it looks like a Constellation 14381.) I inherited it from my grandfather and it had been lying idle for many years; I'm also pretty sure it was never tampered with in any way. I've recently had it serviced by Omega. I made it a point they did not polish or over-clean it, and they didn't. I'd love to learn more about it. It's an elegant piece - especially on the bracelet, which I take to be original.

Looks like you're on the right track - a correct 14381 with a good looking bracelet

Not a whole lot more to say other than it is most likely a circa 1960 watch and has an attractive dial with onyx inlaid markers and no lume, just like I like it :)

Nice watch. It's good to see that Omega didn't bugger this one up. I really like the 14381, nice clean watches. Here's mine.

Did the service papers from Omega not give you the information you are looking for, ie, reference number and serial number?

I'm also surprised they didn't change the handset, especially the corroded seconds hand. Did you specifically ask for that?

It certainly looks like a 14381 to me which should have a cal 551 and likely a serial in the 17 million range.

You can order an extract from the Omega archives. Not an inexpensive thing to get, but given the family history it would be nice to have.

Thank You. No, they gave me absolutely no information. In fairness I was charged for the 'partial service' (120 euros instead of the 'full' 550). I specifically asked them not to replace anything; on second thoughts, it would have looked nice with a new seconds hand. It also keeps perfect time, plus/minus the usual few seconds a day of course.

I might take your advice and order an extract. Thing is, I don't wish to end up spending more than the value of the watch.

    Thanks again.

That's it! Thank You for the kind reply. By the way on my watch the crown (Omega stamped) is octagonal.

The dial doesn't look untouched to me.

I wouldn't know - as I said, I inherited this. I'm happy to take your word for it. Thank You for the info.

So the dial is correct in your opinion?

And since you took the trouble to reply, here's another Omega I have. This is one I bought myself at the Omega boutique in Zurich in 2001. I love the dial, which vaguely (and probably optimistically) reminds me of a Lange Odysseus.

I've never heard of any kind of movement service from Omega costing only €120, what did they do exactly?

And certainly if Omega carried out the work you would have a receipt from them with the ref and serial numbers on it....

I've checked. No, no ref or serial numbers, just a receipt for 'workmanship'. It cost 150, not 120 (my mistake earlier). The place in question is an Omega authorized dealer in Malta.

So, they didn't send it off to Omega, I guess.

Sounds to me like whatever work has been done (?) has been done locally.

Yes, it was. Authorized dealer of course.
