Hello all!

I'm looking at buying my first vintage speedy and would love to get your opinion...

The auction states that the reset pushers are stiff and the chronograph hour hand doesn't return. Is this likely to result in an expensive repair?

From the photos it also looks like it needs a service and it states that the timekeeping has not been tested.

It clearly needs a full service, do you see any major risks?

Other than that other forum members will likely compete with you over this watch; nope... Seems like an honest piece with serious chrono creep and a clear need for some TLC.

On top of that it looks to have the original box and papers… if that’s the case expect some real competition 😉

What does stiff pushers mean? My new speedmaster has "stiff" pushers in the sense that you have to apply a bit of pressure and then they click down. Is it not supposed to be like this?

Hi OP, I can understand why you removed the link. Can you at least post the pictures of the watch so late comers can at least see what we're talking about. Posting rules ask for pics rather than links anyway.

You should budget funds for a service, plus a little extra in case parts are needed. There is always some risk in buying an unserviced watch that isn't operating properly, and you need to make your own decision about your risk tolerance. Personally, it would depend a lot on the upside, i.e. the condition of the watch as a whole.

I didn’t see the link or pictures in the OPs original post but I can guess which watch it is. I think a few of us are keeping tabs on it.

Yup. I am pretty sure you've guessed correctly. I guess the auction will get a bit more attention and OF is left with a thread which is absolutely useless without the original post. I'll update my response with details on the auction for posterity, later.

Here’s my possibly provincial thinking: if you’re going to take the risk to ask experts about their opinions about something, then you leave the pictures or links in the post. You can’t have it both ways…

Agree, but as the OP doesn't seem too keen, I'm volunteering to turn this thread into something more useful for future reference later on.

The suspense......
some 80 people already watching i see via a 3rd party platform. But with the added comission fee, conversion and import tax even the low estimate will make it to expensive for most. If you are a local i wouldnt worry to much about competion.

Some of us Swedes feel like locals in the UK....

Speedmaster service costs have gone through the roof in the past couple of years. Omega service is charging $900 USD now and many independents are getting at least that much or more, particularly for vintage models.
