Hi, came across a speedmaster, seller saying its a 105.012 from circa ‘66
I admit got the bug for vintage watches, dont have any speedmaster and understand they may not be a daily beater but enjoy having a vintage out every now and then.
Want some valuable feedback from community as i dont know if this is a type of get or let go piece, have not yet inspected and it is a 3hr drive
Thanks and leave some sellers photos for reference

Hi,

As in most similar threads; it makes sense to share the best possible pictures and a price. In this case, though, it’s easy enough imho. Pass. The stains around the centres of the subdials is a total eye sore. And a clear indication somebody not too competent has worked on it.

My advice: buy the best condition watch you can get for your budget. It may require moving "down" to a 145.012, 145.022, or other vintage Speedmaster but in my experience you won't regret it.

Some nice examples can be found in the Private Sales section of this very forum.

I’d buy it if price took into account the dial at $0

It has original pushers and an original if not fine bezel.

For me everything is buyable at a price - it’s usual the sellers don’t agree with my value, until a year after they can’t sell it

How much is it - $5000? Any more and you are not going to be happy.

The pictures are terrible. I agree with spacefruit to initially value the dial it at zero. However, I wouldn’t immediately write it off. If the marks in the subdials are just oil, they may clean off. Then a relume could make it look nice. But that’s a lot of ifs and buts

I think one should avoid a project watch as your first Speedmaster. Find a nice one and enjoy it for a while. Start with decent 145.022 -69, 70, 71 as budget allows and then decide your appetite for more.

Thanks for the advice, not after a project.

if i have the money, i'll buy it as is for its age, patina (scratches acquired being a tool watch), original real moonwatch 321 caliber with column wheel (preferred over 861), and reliable provenance from a collector (i assumed). a little negotiation for the dial might help.
