Hi All

long term collector of Rolex and to some extent Omega but the Omega passion is growing who doesn't love the new Snoopy !

I have been on the generic forums for 15+ years

but it seems logical to be on here for all things Omega and of course the best advice and knowledge in particular on what I think is a quite lovely 145.002 - 76

I picked it up very recently from a small local jeweller who was asked to sell the watch by the family of its 1st owner who purchased the watch new in early 1979 from his local AD...

apparently it has lived a charmed life as the owner put it away in its box after getting bored with winding it up...

having experienced some late 70's Submariners that are 'draw' finds and peachy I can only say this feels / seems very similar with no evidence of any real wear or refurbishment (the 1171 has no stretch)....but son in law said he believed it was serviced within last few years but did not think at Omega....

It has its original box and punched papers and a few checks on similar aged 145.002's seem to confirm correct box and 399xxxxx movement dates to mid 1977....( happy to be corrected)

I would welcome any views on watch generally and of course components hands / bezel / bracelet etc...

unsure whether to wear or well put it back in the dark but that would seem a shame even though its gotten used to the dark .....

Congratulations, what a beautiful set, and to label it "a quite lovely 145.002 - 76" is some understatement. I see your dilemma between wearing it and keeping it as a safe queen, but that's a nice problem to have.

I would lean towards wearing it.. it鈥檚 a tool watch after all! The condition is stunning.

Thanks queriver..

the more I look at it and inspect its time-warp condition the more I really don't want to be the one who ruins 41+ years of cosseting, I am super careful with all my watches but a dink or heavy crystal scratch would break my heart on this one.....

Some watches warrant being kept in collector condition for future generations when they've lasted this long in such a well preserved state.

Wear it. I wear my 2915-3 from 1958 as well. That's what they are made for. As I do with my Mil. Sub. Kind regards. Achim

That is a superb example, congratulations on a great find!

As everyones circumstances are different only you can decide if you will chose to wear it. I'm sure you will enjoy it either way.

Yep I agree. I of course love the condition of the OP's watch, but I'm not that type of collector and everything I bought in vintage but like-new condition I ended up selling off as I didn't enjoy wearing and worrying over them. It would be the same for me with a perfect condition collector car. Interesting conversation piece but would end up just taking up space.

Dark brown NATO fits the Mil.Sub well..... As will a light tan NATO , if the lume is light. Kind regards. Achim

There is some fierce competition in the 2020 OFfies "Understatement of the Year" category.

Beautiful catch and a nice dilemma to have! Also reassuring to know that there are -76s out there in such good condition. As someone born in 1977 I can confirm that not everything that age looks as good as your Speedy...!

That is a beautiful watch!
If you were married to the most beautiful woman (or man, or gender neutral person) in the world, would you not make love to her (or him, or whatever) fearing you could damage the goods? 馃槈
I say wear it!

In addition to @Dor_42 great comment I would like to add what's the point of buying a watch and not wearing it.

Sometimes you can only look at, and not touch, beauty....

Wilderbeast as a MY 69 myself I can confim once you pass 50 the patina really starts to set in....

it is quite an amazing piece I looked in great detail yesterday with loupe again and can find not a mark apart from a tiny scuff on the hesalite which i can easily polywatch out..

i must admit when i bought my 1st Speedy coming from wearing Subs i found winding a bit of a chore so i kind of understand the 1st owner putting it away....sacrilege i know...

now i find the winding all part of the rich Speedy experience.....

wear it ?...not wear it ? Arrrrghhhh ......will settle for staring at it for now 馃槈
