Some claim that Rolex enjoys a halo effect. Nah, it's probably just a lightstick.

The reference number is 01.0040.400, from 1988-89. Since that's not very catchy, it is called a DeLuca, after Zenith's Italian agent at the time. There are multiple versions, and this is the first - collector's shorthand: "DeLuca I" - and the most Zenith-y. Each subsequent version morphed to look more and more like a Rolex - mercedes hands, screwdown pushers, screw-in crown, etc, so I regard this as the most pure. I also sort of dig the stealth element - no "El Primero" to be seen. It is 40mm across.

    Some DeLuca posts:

Enjoying this after it's recent rebuild and have changed my opinion on NATO straps. Prefer this to a black leather as it seems to light the watch up. Looks a completely different watch to the one I bought.
    Cheers, Chris

I disagree with that rule.... once a watch is for sale, it doesn't come off my wrist. Gotta savor the last few days ;)

'Course I'm extra careful about bumping it, etc. And usually the crystal gets a final polish and the movement is checked again on the Witschi Time Expert II for a final time before going out the door.

    Yes,
I suppose it also depends on the level of attachment I feel to the watch. Some that go for sale are stored safely in the safety deposit box until their time comes.

Are those spots of mildew on the face, like an old
map? How old is that watch? Looks pristine!
