Talking of luck or knowledge, I missed out on an original one of these 6 or 7 years ago at a watch fair. I was there very early and as a seller was unpacking his wares I spotted the ZRC Grands Fonds get put out on the table. I picked it up immediately , loved it, asked the price ( which with hindsight was quite reasonable ) and considered buying it, but hesitated due to a lack of knowledge of this model. I put it down to reconsider for a moment and a big French collector I know 5 seconds later arrived at the sellers table, picked it up, and bought it at asking price within about a millisecond. A hard and valuable lesson!

Since then at watch fairs if I am considering a piece I will not let it out of my hands until my final buying decision has been made.

 

I learnt my lesson too and it certainly hasn't happened since!
