Someone got a nice no-date on eBay for $399 BIN yesterday. I seriously contemplated buying it but had to convince myself I didn’t need another one. I’m hoping it was someone here that grabbed it.

Does anyone have info on dating by case numbers? Can't find anything definitive so far...

Have the original band also. Lookin at EBay, the $400 I paid looks pretty good
I really like these. Very popular during the Vietnam War era. Legendary photographer Don Mccullin wore this watch in Vietnam.

And another Seawolf just landed. The crystal has some deep gouges but I assume (hope) a Diver tite will do the trick (deeper than a polish can resolve). Otherwise this thing is stunning- an absolute honest survivor.

I've posted this watch on other OF threads but just found this one.
Hope mine lives up to the high bar set by some of the watches here!

Non-runner. The dials will move. I can’t get the back off or I’d send pics of the movement.

My very first Zodiac - the shovel hands hooked me. I've picked up two other Zodiacs since.

Nice transitional like my white one above- MkIII case with MKIV dial and hands.

Your Sea Wolf with the white dial is indeed stunning. A crystal polishing will make it look pristine. I'm not very good at dating vintage Zodiacs well yet, besides the decade possibly, so maybe you could enlighten me on this or the Mk designations.

A wet sand actually did get that gouge out of it

There are books in the subject of the Seawolf and chronopedia has some confusing Mkib/c designations but the way I have always seen it was there were 4 major stylistic transitions between 1958 and 1972ish.

First Gen MkI- these are rare and I know a member or two here have them

The ever present MkII with the chrome plated brass bezels that wear like shit (earliest ones didn’t have the spine through the hands- just solid lume that always fell out- hence the spine)

MKIII with the same dial and hands as the MkII but with the bakelite bezels that are rarely seen without cracks or delimitation

Then the MkIV which has the new dial and shovel hands in a C-shaped case.

Several rare variants in between with colorful bezels and mixes and matches of the above during transitions.

Thanks for the primer on the major SW styles. I have a copy of Yuriy Vakulenko's book titled Collecting Vintage Zodiac Watches which has an extensive Sea Wolf section, but it can be a little cumbersome to navigate, so I am slowly working my way through it. Whenever possible, I like to pin down or at least narrow in on the production dates for watches or watch styles -- I guess I am particular that way.

Yeah- his is the definitive guide and you can really drill into the weeds there. I painted with very broad strokes to simplify into 4 main periods- but there were lots of variations on themes.

I have a red text bezeled MkIII of which I have never seen another other than in his book.

I too have never seen one of the red text bezeled, or any other of the brightly colored Sea Wolfs for that matter, in the wild, so to speak. What's interesting is the one shown in YV's book has shovel hands whereas yours has the dauphine hands.

Yup, I noticed that too. Can only surmise another transitional piece unless the different colored bezels were marketed as special offerings, but I haven’t seen any promo material speaking to that.
