Zenith Ladies 18 karat watch - 1913?

Hi All,

Firstly, I'd like to apologise for my lack of knowledge on watches. So please bare with me.

My wife inherited a Zenith watch from her French grandmother when she was little and she has kept it since.

We were wondering if you could help provide us with more information on the watch?

It does not have its original strap. Also it does not have the star on top of the logo - which seems a bit odd to me. The head of the watch is tiny 16mm by 14mm.

We have not opened the casing because we are a bit scared of breaking it

The serial number is 148951, which I think dates it as 1913?

If anyone can provide any information that would be amazing.

The style screams 1950’s. Perhaps there is a digit missing in the serial number, or you are giving the case number (which does not help to date the watch)?

That is just the case number. You need the serial number to date the movement and that’s inside. Most likely a 1960s piece by the look of it. Compare

Ah ok brilliant. When I get home... I'll have a look inside.

there should be a spot on the back of the case to lift it open

I gave it a go and the whole head popped out. Then I tried to get the back off and I gave up. I was worried about breaking something.

I will take it to a local watch repairer (Cornhill Watches - Bridgwater) to see if they can do it.

Many thanks
James

Definitely not 1913! Could be 1950s or early 1960s.

Is that the eagles head symbol on the back where the strap goes on? Looks like it so 18K French Case. A lot of those came out of Besancon. You should be able to gently pull the back off the movement now.
