    Hey guys,

I was offered a gorgeous A277, first series with chrono blue hands, strait second chrono hand with no lume, etc...

My questions is, bezel is right for this watch? Should not it have a pearl on it?

I've done some research but found very little info about it. The bezels without pearl seem to be uncommon.

    Thanks

I'd worry about the bezel later ... that watch is in beautiful condition: case, dial, hands ...

However, strictly speaking all of the Zenith and Movado advertising catalogues that I've seen from the period showed pearls in the bezels. (Photo below, not mine, shows a collection pitched as "NOS" A277 bezels.)

If you're passing on it, please let us (me!) know. ;)

Thanks for your valuable feedback !! Yes, it does looks awesome and despite the fact that the pearl is "missing", the whole patina and wear of the watch looks even, which leads to think it is original.
I managed to on the web find 2 other A277 mk1 without pearl. I strongly think it is a very early batch that was produced before "mass production" (this kinda happen quite of lot actually, even with modern watches - floating cosmograph on the 16520 is probably a good example...)

Is the movement a 146H (rather than a 146HP) and does the crown have have the older 5-point Zenith star logo on it? Those are the typical characteristics of 'early' A277s.

These really are beautiful watches. Here's a shot of mine (with bezel pearl):

Wow... yours is AMAZING !!!! i love the faded bezel.... no words...

Crown has the 5 point star with the Z inside. Not sure about the movement though...

interestingly, your bezel has a slightly fatter fonts

The one I am interersted to get has 184Dxxx serial which means production date is end of 1968

    Thanks!

Interestingly enough, mine is D313. I'd expect your serial to be slightly lower, if your bezel theory is correct. Either way, they're probably pretty close to each other.

It's always a very good sign when the serial number is still legible on these watches, as they are extremely susceptible to polishing.

Damn you guys with all of these pictured of these beautiful A277s....now I feel like I need one too ;)!!!
For the time being I will make my De Luca first series to suffice.... at the end of the day it has a very similar look as the A277 was indeed the inspiration for it!

Finding a bezel is like finding 'bees knees' for sale

No cure for watch addiction, unfortunately. Just roll with it! AS for the bezel on the a277, I think get it now and enjoy it. Maybe you'll find the bezel, maybe not...

I disagree with Paul on some aspects of this. If you buy because you love it, great, but if you buy with the plan to find the bezel, don't do it.
There are lots of people looking for this needle in a haystack, with lots of connections and experience. It is an unlikely find

Mr. Neuman, I think we largely agree...I guess it would also depend on the price and how much of a stickler you are for perfection...;)
