    Dear OF Members,

I am on the look out for this Zenith. I cannot put a finger on anything wrong with this watch, albeit missing a picture of the movement. Hands, dial, crown and pushers look legit. However, I am not familiar with type of dial. My research have shown that the Zenith 143-6 comes with different dials, but this appears to be less frequent. Any inputs appreciated.

I have this dial in a gold case. Doesn't mean it can't also come in a steel case, but the gold one was an NOS example that spend a few decades in a dealer safe...FWIW

Thanks for the pic @LouS ! The crowns differ. What is the size of the case of your watch?

The Gallet/Ex Park cases are all pretty much the same with minor variations - 36-37mm or something like that

Another little tidbit I realized looking through my database. This watch has a 7 digit serial number beginning with 910. These are pretty much exclusively the black-dailed so-called Yugoslav Air Force watches. IT seems very likely this watch did not start life with this dial.

the serbian one looks convincing because identical, although the origin in the former Yugoslavia where one would expect the Air Force cases to cme from does give me a little pause. As for lorologiese, forgive me for expressing skepticism - long history of frakenizing there

@LouS, as a Zenith connoisseur, how consistent and reliable is the statement that these Zenith's were issued to the Yugoslavian Air Force?

It's a good question. I've never seen any documentation to prove it. It was received knowledge when I started collecting - couldn't even tell you where I heard it. I'd love it if anyone could present any further info.

It is one of the main reasons I want this model (My roots are Yugoslavian). I was able to find some information on Croatian forums claiming that the this model was indeed issued for the pilots. Moreover, I contacted the ebay seller personally, and he claimed he bought the watch from a former officer in the army. I have only seen one watch that had the case-back stamped 'YNA' Yugoslavian National Army.

The marking is exceptional - I have never seen any of these with any type of non-factory marking. I wonder if an extract from Zenith would at least show that they had been sent to Belgrade.

When you started this thread, I had a low offer in with this seller, of course I had also seen the other example which sold in late January.
    He accepted my offer.
Because of the condition of both watches (very good), and their duly nice cases, dial and handsets, I took it as a positive confirmation.
I obviously lacked the considerable expertise and data Lou has acquired over the years when I took the plunge, but still remain hopeful that everything is kosher here.
The seller of the other eBay example was contacted and asked to share the provenance.
I also plan to get an extract from Zenith, maybe that will shed some light on this reference.

It would be great if Zenith could validate it - keep us updated.

It may also turn into one of those many cases that can be neither proved nor disproved, in which case you will simply have to enjoy what is a very attractive watch.

    First information gleaned:
The white dial version above belonged to a Naval officer of the Yugoslav army.
This version was given for anniversaries to higher ranking officers in the army, white dial for navy and airforce, black for artillery and armored units. These were not officially issued and the number of watches is unknown.
    Haven't heard from Zenith yet...

I was just noticing the same thing. Especially since the next digit is 4 -those black dialed chronos all start in 9104 or 9105z
