Am I right to react to the length of the hands, specifically the minute hand, as well as the backside of the lugs and the lack of a gold stamp on any of them (or has hanging out on this forum made me overly paranoid )?

 

You are quite correct, and I had never realised the 18ct gold stamp was missing until now, disappointing.
The length of the minute hand is okay with me, I rather like it.
I have great respect for these older UGs, so I shall not let the lack of the gold stamp concern me.
But thanks, at least now I am aware of this.

 

The 18ct gold markings are well defined on the inside of the case back as they should be . It would be interesting to know why UG did not locate the stamp on the back side of the lugs.

 

I wonder if they've just been polished away in some cases?

Polished away possibly? Or if the cases were made outside of Switzerland?

No, I was not aware of it being a redial, rather surprised as it came from a reputable source, and was serviced earlier this year by an accredited Watchmaker who commented that it was a very nice watch in good condition. I would really appreciate any information about the watch being a redial that you can tell me. I have been learning about watches for only two years so have much to learn.

 

Unless I'm going mad, I'd say the "Universal Geneve" script is incorrect, unless you can show me another example. I've never seen that logo being used, nor that particular font.

Also, UG would have never let the subdial crosshairs and the "6" collide.

 

Your thoughts on the first one in the thread? Do you think that hands are correct for the watch?

 

Harder to say, with that hazed crystal.

I'd say it's probably original, though that seconds hand is a replacement.

"Hazing" is the term we use in the US for what fraternity brothers do to their new members before they're allowed in.
