As titled. Here is my watch, what are your thoughts?

As an aside can anybody explain to me the purpose of the A - R indicator on the 321 movement? A very amateur question I know, but if you don’t ask, you don’t know! Regulator on the watch movement...A - Advance. R - Retard. I'm not sure, but probably actually from the French words.

Thank you Partagas. Can you provide any further information as to its function and the meaning of where the arrow is pointed?

Thank you Seaborg. My main query is in regards to the movement and as I now know it to be called, the regulator, and it’s function. I guess I am also interested in people’s thoughts on the quality/condition of the watch, maybe just reassurance that I have chosen well?

Prior to buying the watch I did a great deal or reading and research as well as consulting some people who are far more knowledgeable than myself on the subject. I believe that I have chosen well, but it’s nice to hear the thoughts of the community!

Thank you Dan S. I’m very happy to share, and hopefully learn. I’m rather more prolific on WatchUSeek, having only just signed up here. My past experience with watches has generally been in modern pieces. However a few years ago I was passed down a Mark ii 145.014, of which I will post some photos at a later date, and this kickstarted my interest in vintage Speedmaster, the end result being this purchase.

Whether you’ve chosen well—or not—will come down to what you’ve paid for it.

I have paid approximately £7000.00. This is a price that I am comfortable with, based upon the reading that I have done. Your comments are of course welcome.

First of all, welcome to the OF.

This Clip should answer your Question:

His watch uses "+" and "-" instead of "A" = French for "avant" (engl. Forward) & "R" French for "retour" (engl. backward)

Thank you Wuza72. The video you have posted should go along way to clearing up my question, much appreciated.
