Just walking around new haven found this little store selling vintage jewelry. Lady said she has a box full of watches but would bring them in next week. Only thing she had was this bulova she claimed sold online for over 900 and she is asking 650 for it. I’m not in the market at the moment but am curious if she is telling the truth about the value of the watch. Maybe a poor pic again she was closing so I rushed it. If it would be a good pick up to possibly use towards gathering funds towards a speedy it might be interesting but I’m a terrible sales man and I don’t like selling things online as I’m always scared of getting scammed. It’s just a passing thought.

Looks like a Sky Star (I think that is the model)...a one year model, I believe. Here is mine....recently paid under $100, I recall.

Holy cow what a con artist that lady is. 900 and she offers a deal of 650. I’ll go back and offer her 75 bucks. Only because I do like bulovas and don’t have an automatic one

While I don't follow this particular model or Bulovas in general, I do know that the blue world-time bezels tended to fade badly so finding one in this condition is pretty rare.

Yes it’s in good condition and the box is also nice but I wouldn’t say 650 dollars nice

You may have got a good deal as this white appears to have sold for 900. Maybe that is what she is looking at
I really like the Sky Star...nice style, size, and keeps good time. Like so many watches, it is an iteration of a higher end watch....a period Rolex model, I believe. While the Sky Star is far from being common, they do come up for sale from time to time. As noted above, the bezel inserts are very prone to fading. $900 seems a bit steep to me, unless you really love the watch....i.e., it value is what you place on it.

Actually the asking price is $650.

It’s in pretty good condition I must say. Original bracelet to boot 👍
A dealer would buy this at $650 and put it at $900 in a heartbeat in my opinion.
( HODINKEE would sell it at $1100 )

The gentleman above picked his up for under a hundred he said. Honestly my only reason to purchase it would be to sell it to build up for my omega and I just don’t know if that is a good motivation.

OP’s watch has a bezel, bracelet and a box (not sure if it is the correct box), so that ups the price. Maybe this is an opportunity for OP to do a bit more price research and educate the seller on the market conditions and what you would pay. It is a fine looking watch.

Honestly 650 does seem high. Yes if box is original it will increase the price but I’m seeing prices all over. There was the white dial one I linked to that did sell for 900 but that certainly does not seem the norm. Had I not just become unemployed it is a watch I would consider for myself, it’s in great shape, not a lot of them floating around but from what you guys are posting I don’t see dropping 650 on it that good of a deal. If I really loved it and hadn’t just stepped in doo doo like I did might be a different story. I do like bulovas. Thing is there are plenty of watches floating around and acting impulsively is not good for me. If I research enough and find this to be a great deal I might jump but so far what I’m seeing that is not the case. It still begs the question the 900 dollar white dial one

Not enough wiggle on the price to make it profitable for a flip towards bigger fish- the eBay/ PayPal fees would kill your margin. If you could get it for 3-400 it would be an awesome watch to wear- it’s got that 70’s cool factor. But you won’t get more than she’s asking at the $650 if you sold it...and again...you would lose your 20% of flesh to eBay.

Ya I think you hit it on the head JW My wife and I have sold probably 500 things on eBay and Craig’s list but never one watch. I do like this specimen but my main goal would be to use it to catch a bigger fish and there is no guarantee this would move. If I was in better shape I would negotiate and get it and if I couldn’t move I’d be happy keeping it. The store owner said she has a box full of watches she will bring in Wednesday she said she thinks she has a gold seamaster (who knows what she is asking for that) but I’ll go down and see what she has, I have plenty of time now. The more I look at this bulova the more I like it but that price wouldn’t give me room to do anything. Maybe something will happen between now and Wednesday, I doubt it but who knows.

I love when someone says they’re giving you a good deal when their original price is so far off the mark that the deal is still way over priced

It’s odd the, the lady didn’t out and out lie. There was a white dialed model of this watch that did sell for 900. I can’t make sense of that. I think I put a link to it. Then others here show me they bought one for around 100 and now seeing them on Flea bay for 237-350 it is a bit odd. This lady has a small shop in new haven CT and I guess she is looking for top dollar. She says she had a gold seamaster note:I don’t want a gold seamaster but she is bringing in watches to her store Wednesday I’ll prob go have a look but I get the feeling I’m not going to find any deals with this lady. She probably finds the highest price any watch has sold in history and goes from there. I don’t even know if I should bother offering 3-400 for the watch.
