Heyyy OF<3

recently found some watches, and one of them is a really cool and unusual Baume & Mercier ladies watch. I’ve tried searching online but found nothing. The number outside on the caseback (550 626) doesn’t seem to help at all - guess it’s not a reference number although it really looks like it.

Well, today I took it to a watchmaker to have it opened… aaaand… nothing. Still no reference number:/

I honestly don’t know anything else about it - no model name, no year, no proper reference. nothing. I’d really appreciate any help here😀

Also: what do you think of it?
It’s a bit too feminine for me, so i really dk what to do with it - maybe gift it to someone, maybe sell it - but solely to someone who’d actually wear and enjoy it, not just for melting.

Thaaanks,
consultant

ummmmm. Melt weight on this one is hefty. You married? A wife would be the only person I would gift it to. Otherwise...

Thanks for sharing.
Looks nice, and well crafted with everything signed and apparently legit. Doesn't seems to have a lot of information on Beaume&Mercier on the net. Some could argue that it is related to their history of having addressed the women side of the watch market for more than 100 years now and maybe becoming less appealing to the rather male oriented watch fans of todays ?
I would suggest you keep it if you like it and want to gift it at some point to someone you care or Sell it but with maybe low chance to sell it for more than it's gold value - leaving a high chance that someone will melt it down.

Baume & Mercier and Longines had links in the distant past. These days they are a lower tier Richemont brand with not too much collector interest I am aware of. That is quite unusual and not the run of the mill cocktail watch but still perhaps only worth the considerable melt value. At I guess I'd place it at late 70s early 80s but that is purely a guess based on the style.

That style is very out of date, few women would be interested in wearing it. The value is in the gold. There is nothing wrong in turning it into cash and buying something more appropriate. It has zero horological value.

Did you weigh it? I’m curious how many grams it is.

It is an example of a watch that would have brought very little in the market a few years ago, but which will bring plenty today.

Lovely gold bracelet with a watch accessory attached.

Yeah it’s a bit dated. But if it survives this gold price interval it may come back into style someday

Yeah, there’s very little out there - I really hoped someone here might be able to add solid info, but all I’m getting so far are “melt it” vibes 😂

That said, I actually find it pretty funky, so i guess i'm going to keep it for now.

Good for you. Keep looking. It's a stylish watch and I'm sure there are women out there who would really enjoy it. It's a true conversation piece.

Didn’t know about the historical Baume & Mercier / Longines link - do you have more info/links?

As for the dating, late ’70s / early ’80s sounds plausible to me too, at least based on the styling

Baume & Co was the importer of Longines watches into the UK for many years. I don't know the connection between Baume & Co and Baume & Mercier.

Edit: Not the same company - apparently only connected by name through a family member who started their own company due to a rift within the family:

A real hands-on job 😅

Always on the boob side of things - as a surgeon, I spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about everyone’s boobs
