Received this King Seiko this week. What a gorgeous watch. Super sharp case and lovely grey sunburst dial. Love it!

That is lovely. It works really well with the grey/green strap.
Do you know which specific model it is, as it's hard to read from the caseback?

    Beautiful watch @Amice

    Think it's 5625-7040

I already jumped on eBay and grabbed a light blue day date dialled one.*
That's the reason I stay away from WRUW; too many 'new' must-haves to discover!
Pics are a little blurry so not totally sure of the reference (5626-7040?). Fingers crossed for something anywhere close to the quality of @Amice's.

Edit: leapt in too quickly and made every associated silly mistake. Luckily the seller has issued a full refund.

    @ekallus & @Emeister

Thanks! Indeed its a King Seiko 5625-7040 from 1970.

The day-date version is the 5626-7040.

OK. So what are we missing here?

A couple of us were watching a rather ordinary 6309-7040 which was going along nicely and I was getting tempted.
But luckily for me, a bidding war erupted between a newbie and a veteran and it took off.

Somebody please enlighten me as to why I should have joined in the madness, or am I lucky?

This list is starts about where I would have bailed out.

To me that’s an insane price for a 6309 that beat up!

I think you were wise to bail out.

The final purchase price reflects a premium which is not justified.

The case looks unpolished and a new crystal would make a big difference. However a correct large spline crown is needed to replace the current incorrect crown.

The hands look like they have been relumed and they may not even be 6309 hands to begin with.

And you would have to factor in the cost of a service.

Just sold this in advance of my hunt for my grail 6159-700X

I’m not going to lie... this one stings, but it’s for a worthy endeavour ;)

What have you guys sold in pursuit of another watch that stung when you did it? Was it worth it in the end? Could use some words of encouragement here

I would have loved to be on the receiving end of that transaction!

I've just parted with my 2254.50 in pursuit of a 6105-8000/9.

As soon as I sold the watch it didn't feel right, but I'm slowly getting over it.

This example is now heading my way (6119-8800) - first vintage Seiko, and think that I've been lucky to start with this!

Picked this 6138-0011/UFO at a absolute UFO.jpg bargain price a couple days ago. It's properly beat up but as this was my first little foray into collecting, I'm very happy. I do plan to have it restored (needs a lot of work).
