I was lucky enough to snag one at 10% off retail at release... a really cool little watch, but definitely not worth 4x the MSRP.

Wish seiko would release an automatic version.

Some seikoholics tell me the reason seiko wont is that their automatic chronograph movements are at a much higher price point.

Cant fathom why seiko cant make their own version of say, a Valjoux 7750?

Hello. This week I made a deal and finally obtained an alpanist. Not that they are real hard to get I just kept missing them as when they are reasonably priced they move in hours. I’ll put up a picture of it tomorrow it’s too dark here now. Anyway, it’s a great looking watch but this stock band is atrocious. It’s an atrocious uncomfortable faux alligator. Anyway I’m looking now for replacements. I’m open to bracelet, NATO, or strap. Just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same and found a strap they would recommend

Which alpinist did you get? The SARB017?

I got a strapcode TT jubilee bracelet to put on mine.

Ah the classic Alpinist , what a great choice 👍. Had mine for about 5 years now & thought the original strap was not up to much & I've had mine on a number of leather & nato straps but was always looking for a nice jubilee bracelet with SELs ,I bought this one as a aftermarket from the bay & think it really suits the watch .

Yes, I really like this watch. Disregard the wrong date Im tracking the time and power reserve as I picked it up used and last night I changed the date by error. Anyway I know it’s not a high end watch but the dial always caught my eye on this. I notice uncle seiko has a beads of rice they recommend for the alpanist which looks way cool on their website so I am narrowing down my choices. These do look good on leather as well. I think I’ve been keeping an eye out for one for the past two months. Glad I finally picked it up.

There is also a common misconception going around with these, stating that the J is better than the K which is false. The only difference is the shipping route and obviously, dial text. I see yours sports the "customary" misaligned chapter ring just like mine does. Is there anybody on this forum with a SKX with a proper chapter ring?

Just love them. I have a few Swiss pieces but I go back to my Seikos to wear all the time . I love the simplicity, elegance you name.Very unassuming timepieces. Why did I buy some DJ's ( because it is a must in any collection IMO) when I can have this for fraction of the price. I remember the old owner/founder of the Seiko and Citizen Watch Forum( It is now Watchsite and that was where I started learning the craziness ) -Dr. Lee. He said that when he discovered Seiko especially the KS, GS etc, he got rid of all his swiss watches. Would I do it? Probably not but I understand why. They are just fabulous. Here is an incoming one- They call it -Midnight Blue
