Damn this thread, now looking at something to use as (another) daily beater.

Torn between the SRP775K1 and the SNE518P1

The first looks like it’ll take some punishment, but not sure about the black extra casing - great deal on it under $250. Would be my first solar watch, which given I do a fair bit of rotation might be useful for its excellent power reserve?

latter is a little marmite, I like the turtle cushion case but not convinced by the gold accents, although I could later mod them out with a non gold bezel insert and chapter ring. There’s something about the more retro case style!

any thoughts ?

my first Seiko was a gold rectangular dress watch , 34 years ago, that I still have. The other was a quartz Chrono, semi dress style that I gave to charity earlier this year. These are a world away, how styles and tastes change !

Nice choices and tough decisions!

I have that exact turtle reissue, but then again, i also have. an original 6309 😉
I like my divers, especially Seiko divers, in all black garb, but I figured I'd get this one as a sort of 'commemorative' piece given the golden accents. It's actually really nice looking in the metal and the gold gives is a bit of different light (and i hate gold tones in watches).

Actually wearing it today 😜

The SNE I've also tried and really enjoyed it on the wrist. Mind you it was the 497, black with metal bracelet. It does feel robust the the shroud is some sort of hard plastic (I'm almost 100% certain). It being solar is a matter of preference. I have to say though, that I ended up not getting the SNE but eventually got an original 7549-7010 300m tuna and love it. 😁

Did anyone here save the 2020 Prospex catalog a few days ago before it went offline? Asking for a friend (no, PM me 😉)

Many thanks for the reply and photos. Whilst i'd love an original I can't justify the expense, not for 'yet another watch' never mind 'yet another beater' lol! Decision just got more difficult, or maybe easier ?, as i have now found the SNE $50 less than last nights search. Also came across this TST modded 7548-700c, which is quite eye catching (but 50% more than the new SNE)..

Who else here thinks the 7002 1st gen divers are criminally underrated?

[snip]

I love the SNE518P1 from what I've seen so far... question: Do you know if the shroud and strap is black or a very dark blue? I'm not sure from the videos and pictures I can find.

Question
Is the Seiko
Chronograph, SNDC31P2 a good tool watch?
These are on sale from a number of sources for less than $100 USD.
I bought a caravel Chronograph awhile back but passed it on as a Christmas present to a nephew. While it rode comfortably on the wrist it was way too big for my wrist and the stopwatch second hand was on a sub dial so too small to see easily and blocked completely by the hour or minute hand at certain times.
The Seiko doesn't seem to have those problems. Its also in a retro style that I like and measures in 1/20th second increments. 40mm case and nice calfskin band.
Said to be water resistant to 100 Meters.
So any bad news I should take into account?
I don't really need a chrono but just want one and like it or not a quality quartz movement should be a tad more accurate and durable than any mechanical ( Chinese Seagull) I can afford. Plus when it finally bites the dust its cheap enough that no tears will be shed.
