I feel Seiko, isn’t really in the same watch category as Omega, or other higher end watches. Seiko are great watches no doubts, but so are many other brands. I can see a Grand Seiko category fitting better.
, or maybe a new “Under $1k watches category”?

So are you saying that all Seiko's that are not GS should be priced under $1K?

Main thing is whether a watch brand has a following. Seiko has a long colorful history , great styling and some very interesting movements.
The number of posts here would suggest it should have its own permanent thread or its own forum with sub forums perhaps.

I prefer it this way since many unusual watches show up on this long running thread that I might not see otherwise.

Not mine but surely deserving of posterity. I would’nt mind one that’s moded with a heart silver and gold bezel like this one.

Seikos were my gateway drug into watches, especially vintage pieces. I still have this 6105 4CB6B344-045B-4BC2-B4C0-30B68E720BD5.jpeg 4323ED24-3F52-4B3D-9D5A-3B62D61056DA.jpeg

Whenever I think of adding a mechanical chronograph to my collection, I find it hard to look past Seiko’s cal. 7016. Column wheel, true flyback, vertical clutch (?), quickset day-date, stacked registers with sweeping hands, and overall robust movement. True, Citizen’s cal. 8110a might be more advanced since its a hacking/handwinding hi-beat (28,800bph), but I think the 7016’s looks go a long way.

I'm sorry if this has been posted on this thread previously but I was drifting through one of Random Rob's videos (2019 best of) and I noted a number of "Explorer" modded Seiko divers.

is there someone who mods them or is it a kit that you can get from someone?

    cheers

Since obtaining a vintage Paul Peugeot with its licensed copy of an older Seiko movement and noticing that some medium priced watches (from a company that will remain nameless) uses Seiko movements, I wonder how many brands use the Seiko movements.
I recently bought a Caravel quartz Chronograph, a lower end Bulova product, that had an un named Japanese movement. I've read there's a connection between Bulova and Citizen so it more likely a Citizen than a Seiko movement.
I gave the Caravel to a nephew since it was bigger than advertised and I prefer a smaller case watch. Excellent watch though.

Back to the subject. Is there any way of finding out which brands use Seiko movements or licensed copies?

Likewise for me. In my collection, in terms of numbers, Seiko is by and large number one. Then Omega a far second. Closely followed by Rolex and then Citizen.

I think most of them use the NH-35? I'll use Gruppo Gamma as an example they list the use of the it in the specs for the watch. As to whether or not there is a "list" somewhere on the interwebs, I doubt it.

Absolutely. I looked the other day and it’s 4 seiko, 2 omega, a single Rolex, a single maratac. And I keep eyeing 70’s seikos.

My Seikos seem to have come and gone but I think that a turtle needs to be a permanent fixture.
