It appears that the wildlife in my yard likes my new addition too ….
that’s a beautiful lizard. My knowledge is outdated and fairly superficial; savannah monitor? Maybe a tegu?
Anyone who can guess tegu isn’t doing half bad
Head and neck a bit blocky for a monitor family, and with rounded head scales I’m going for Shingleback 👎
I've rescued and rehabilitated a good number of them, as my work involves a lot of driving and working within road casements.
Yes, it's a "Shingleback" or "Bobtail" lizard, native to Australia.
They are wonderful little creatures, who have an unfortunate habit of sunning on road surfaces.
Being slow movers, many become part of the road......... I'm sure some people actually aim for them 🙁
I've rescued and rehabilitated a good number of them, as my work involves a lot of driving and working within road casements.
I've also seen a few very old-timers who could well be as old as my watch in that pic.
