After 11 months of waiting it to be repaired (2 "watchmakers" that did more harm than good, and then followed by an amazing one) I got my grandfather's cosmic back. I really enjoy the watch, not only for sentimental reasons, but because I really like Cosmics.
My grandfather passed away a few years ago at the age of 91. He was one of my best friends. He served on the USS Reynolds DE-42 during WWII. He often spoke of this time on the ship and being at Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Bottom image is of his ship. He told me he remembered when the photo was taken (he is somewhere on the bridge). They were transferring Ernie Pyle to his ship. He met Ernie right before he was killed, and even got his signature on the back of classified transmissions during the battle of Okinawa. The transmissions are talking about new strategies to shoot down Kamikazees.
He then went onto work his entire career for GE as a manger. I was lucky to have known him.
