I'd destroy it in a month at work, it would definitely be neglect to wear it, plus it's not known for its resistance to water/coolant etc. It's a sapphire. But mig weld spatter will knacker a sapphire in no time. Learned that the hard way......

I believe it is known for its resistance to temperature...It passed them to become the moon watch...http://www.watchtime.com/featured/rocket-watch-history-omegas-speedmaster-moonwatch/.However I do agree with you about the saphire crystal...

It doesn't really get hot, but it's dunked in all kinds of car related fluid and chemicals, plus the bezel and crystal on a speedy is a bit "catchy" for engine bays. I can't afford to buy many "pricey" watches and I can't bring myself to do it to my speedy. The only watch that's lasted more than two years is my tissot Prs200 (that things taken punishment that watches twice it's price have not) broken crystals and bracelets and seal perishing leading to fluid ingress has happened commonly to others.

Yeah the speedy is so versatile...Yep best way of avoiding damage is avoiding exposing the watch to hostile environements...Can't argue with u the re 😀
