This little guy helped introduce the Western (watch forum) world* to Seiko in the late 90s. *Its 4s15 high grade movement was (re)developed by Seiko in the early 90s. Why (re)developed? Legend has it that Seiko did not have any engineers who were experienced in designing mechanical watch movements during this time. This was due to there being a heavy emphasis on quartz in the 80s/90s. As mechanical watches were beginning to get popular again, they reached into their archives and chose to modify a high end chronometer grade King Seiko 52XX movement. This particular watch was only produced for two years (and sold for under $300). Bob from the MWR forum discovered the watch and ended up meeting a Japanese fellow by the name of Seiya Kobayashi (who I imagine some here know). Things snowballed from there... Even though the dial seems military MOD Mark XI inspired, the design was actually put forth to get young Japanese people to start buying mechanical watches. Go figure. Wow, that went on for too long. Sorry about that.
